A driver in Russia swapped one of the rear wheels on his SUV for a log, causing jaws to drop in traffic on the streets of St Petersburg.

Stunned motorists captured images and video footage of the driver weaving his way down a busy road with a log of wood for a fourth wheel.

The grind of the makeshift wooden tyre created smoke along the stretch of road and there were fears the Chevrolet Niva vehicle could catch fire.

One witness, Anastasia Nikolaeva, said the log was “emitting smoke from the friction with the road”.

Wonder what the tread lifetime is on that log...

his whole half shaft is just missing as well. I guess it was easier to drive on a log than to get a new rear end.

how long do you think the wait is for a new rear end in Mother Russia?

I bet that's the flat tire he had to bolt there. Most probably he didn't have a spare, hence the log.

You misspelled a word, but I'm not sure in what way to correct you.

That's pretty damn creative, his axle is gone,so he can't bolt the wheel on. Pull the rear driveshaft and run it in 4 wheel drive, hell he should do the same on the other side too.

I had to do that with a boat trailor once, but I used pipe. Got pulled over due to all the sparks. As to the spare, the hub might have been damaged, he might not have been able to get the spare off the vehicle (long bolts, frozen lugs, etc.), lug bolts could have been broken.

Here the statement on the log goes from:

One witness, Anastasia Nikolaeva, said the log was “emitting smoke from the friction with the road”.

To:

One witness, Shaquithia Jhawnson, said the log was “smokin like a muthafricker...like Mawrkwan be dumpin too much wawtuh on the baby beck ribs on the greeyuh!"
