NATO nations still have F-16's right????

More numbers does not mean better more effective in battle.

This is modern warfare

If you're going to use an example of "modern warfare" the F16 is a poor choice. It's a 1970's era fighter that's totally outclassed by more modern fighters and very vulnerable to modern SAM systems like the Russians have by the gross.

Lets not forget the Russian military has basically zero combat experience.

What do you think they're doing in the Ukraine?

Training, equipment and combat experience all favor NATO

As far as US or British troops, yes. Maybe even the Germans. As for the rest of NATO... Meh.

It would eventually no doubt, however, it would take a lucky shot of Russian subs getting past ours.

You listed the Russians as having the quietest subs in the world. That is completely false btw.

We trained in war games with the Jimmy Carter and several Virginia classes while I was stationed on a sub. Russia has nothing that can compare with those. The closest thing is the Astute class sub the Brits are pushing.

Poland has a little over 100,000 active duty troops with about 1,000 tanks, 2,000 AFVs, 1,200 pieces of artillery, 200 helecopters. They have only 112 fighters.

After having been Russia's bitch for so long, the Poles will fight down to every last man, woman and child. Even once Russia overpowered them with sheer manpower there would be a constant state of guerrilla warfare against them.

Whether Putin understands that reality or not is a different story.

Straight cash assumes Poland would be alone. The US has the capability to fly their aircraft anywhere in the world. The Navy Tomahawks could reach 800 miles inland. And the rest of Europe would be right there with us.

The US has numerous airfields throughout Europe to launch support missions for Poland.

Russia would get 100 miles into Poland before suffering 3x their projected losses. Hyperwar is the new card game and the USA is sitting on aces.

The F-16 can still dominate most Russian Air frames

thats only a small fraction of their military

Pretty much what this dude said.

LINK

We've always been better in equipment and training. I read an article a while ago that said NATO now outnumbers Russian forces, too, but naturally can't find it at the moment.

I know exactly what our European capabilities are,ive been here for going on 4 years at two bases.

We have troops all over the Baltics and in Poland as well as some former Soviet countries. The Russians would have their hands full getting to Poland but those forces are there as a buffer before the troops in Germany, Italy, UK, Spain etc can mobilize and the conus forces arrive.

Also if Russia was on NATO's door step prepping an invasion there would be troops there to great them.

And I spent 6. The surface fleet is woefully under equipped to track them.

We had to stay in a box at specified depths, banging on the hatch, with an artificial noise maker in the sail just to give you guys in the surface fleet a chance. Still never found us.

However, I have the full confidence in our sub force's ability as I've seen it done against various platforms around the world. That bad boy you showed is only slightly quieter than the Akulas (don't get me wrong, still EXTREMELY quiet).

The 3 Seawolfs, Virginias, and hell even the SSBNs once their reactors are in natural circulation simply can't be found and are quieter than Yasen class you showed.

So much incorrect assumptions in this thread. Sometimes you just need to stop, but thanks for the informative info in the OP.

As compared to the small fraction of the Polish military with combat experience that you mentioned above.

I spent my last year of active duty in the early 90s at the US Army Armor school as an instructor. This was the school that all NATO members sent their tank crews to for advanced training. Before that I served in Germany and also trained along side German, British, and Dutch tankers. I saw first hand what NATO had during the height of the Cold War and I was there for the downsizing that followed the end of the Cold War. I saw first hand with my own eyes the difference between Cold War NATO and post-Cold War NATO. After the end of the Cold War, NATO shrunk in quantity and quality.

I don't put much stock into NATO. They were far too reliant on the US during my time working with them.
