What is this one... some kind of tank destroyer or something?

Mobile Artillery or Self driven.. whatever the term is.. It's something that can drop a ton of pain from a good ways out

Thanks like I stated earlier I'm no tank-ologist or anything like that it just seemed a bit smaller in comparison to the generic or highly televised tanks I have seen.

The one you're talking about is not actually a tank. It's more of a infantry/cavalry fighting vehicle. It has a totally different mission than a tank. It's made to support infantry or do reconnaissance. But that's not to say it cannot take on tanks if the need arises. From what I can see of the picture it carries what looks to be four anti-tank missile launchers to deal with tanks that they encounter.

They aren't stupid enough. It isn't going to happen.

Russians aren't really into that interracial stuff... for them it's forced and mother/son.

Except that's not a tank. That's self propelled artillery.

Remember reading that when the US got it's hand on some of the feared Soviet fighters a couple of decades ago that they were built to be easily repaired, but very poorly constructed and not very complex.

This is directed at the whole thread Shama, not really at you.

1) How much money do you think Russia is spending right now trying to consolidate its hold in Ukraine? Combined with the Islamic separatists they have a long way to go before they can even thinking about eying the West. And even then there is only so far they can go. Poland will certainly put up a fight and I think the US would intervene then.
2) No one is invading Russia. Last I checked they still have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Anyone comes close to Moscow again and Russia can blast them out of the history books.

Exactly. They're doing all this shite using a very outdated mindset. Future wars will be won with unmanned planes taking off from carriers, dropping computer controlled bombs/missles from 40,000ft. That ground defense will be scrap metal in about 15 minutes. If Russia is ever stupid enough to take a run at Europe they would get the full might of the U.S.

Air power can help win a war but it cannot fight a war all alone. Air power cannot take and hold ground. And this is what is still needed even today to win a war. Russia is preparing for the most likely war they will have to fight against what they see as their greatest threat, namely a war on their western border against NATO. Yes, air power would play a decisive role in any such war but the terrain over with this war would be fought is perfect tank country where to win, you will need a highly mobile and fully mechanized force on the ground.

More air support and light infantry is the way to go. Their economy will only be drained even more with all this

The difference is the fire control software and hardware. Something that has seen continuous upgrades and improvements over the decades. Russia may jump a few years closer to the present but it's a far cry from a battle-tested system that has seen considerable improvement.

Europe & the US better pull their heads out of their asses or the nightmare we dreaded in the 80's, a Soviet invasion of central Europe, could be a real threat within the next decade.

I'm quaking in my boots, let me tell you.

Yeah, I don't get anyone that would be fearful of something like that anymore. Every time we get into a real battle with someone we unleash some new type of arsenal that the enemy has never seen and we frick their world up.

Who's calling "doom & gloom"? Al I'm saying is that the Russians are a growing threat and we need to take this threat seriously.

And as for NATO, I was part of NATO back when it was at the peak of it's power in the late 80's. But since then NATO has been scaled back drastically and is nowhere near as strong as it was back then.

The only way we go to war with Russia is if they invade Europe. We are not kicking off with them.

A mass surge across Europe in the long run would cripple their military capability.
