This article is from September of 2015, and I searched but couldn't find anything. It's a pretty neat story of a once habitable town not many people know about.
quote:

Norwood recently wrote “The Day Time Stood Still: The Hurricane of 1915,” which describes life in Ruddock and chronicles the event that forever changed the town.

quote:

Should the residents need to buy anything from New Orleans, they would flag down the train and hand their grocery list to the engineer, who would return with their goods. Because of this, the engineer knew where each resident lived.

Doesn't seem like something a train engineer would do...
quote:

Burg’s recollection of her childhood and the Hurricane of 1915 vividly paints a portrait of the day, 100 years ago, when the town of Ruddock and the surrounding area were destroyed.

The sign, but not the community.

I love this story and a couple others I have read about the history of that area.
My dad said he saw a documentary on it once, but i've searched and come up empty

I've read an article about a " witch" predicting the destruction of Frenier and a hurricane came threw and destroyed the town. I don't remember if it was the same year as this but it was interesting. It also involved a survivor walking the track back to Hammond to get help.

Interesting. The Ruddock sign always lets me know I'm almost to the spillway. I never knew there was an actual town there once.

Isn't there an old overgrown cemetery from this in the swamp?

You don't know how long it's been since I've passed through.

No idea. I grew up hunting in the Manchac swamp, but never really explored further south than the Prairie or Galva canal.
