Robin Thicke noticeably ripped off Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up” when he wrote the smash hit “Blurred Lines” with Pharrell Williams and T.I., a Los Angeles jury has decided. He and co-songwriter Pharrell Williams must pay Gaye’s family $7.3 million as part of the ruling
quote:

"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward," a spokesperson for Williams tells Rolling Stone. "Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter."

I listened to both songs just to judge for myself. EXACT same music. Guilty!

So blatantly stealing music is part of the creative process?

I've always wondered how this doesn't happen more often.

These guys probably listen to more music than most of mankind. It would not shock me for one of them to think they've created a beat when in fact, its just a beat from a song they heard coming from the nether regions of their brain.

Guess they all need a Shazam app to make sure their beat is original.

Of course, they could have just stole it, but I like thinking about the above scenario.

Kid? He's 42

You should look up his career. He's a very well respected producer

I was planning on doing this but the youtube search turned up the unrated Blurred Lines video first and I just watched it twice instead. In appreciation to Thicke and Pharrell for that video alone - Not Guilty!

To be fair he hasn't aged in 20 years though.
