Do the bikes from Bikes Direct come assembled?
they are the amazon of online bike sellers. bikes are 90% put together and they have very simple instructions for attaching the few things that aren't.
i've done 2 in the office where i work for friends and its taken maybe 15-30 minutes MAX to put them together.

Yeah same here. I currently ride 30-40 on week days after work and 60+ rides on weekends.

quote:Exactly. I just bought my Defy 5 from Bicycle World. Great people over there.
Go to Bicycle World and check out the Giant Defy or to Bicycle Connection and check out the Specialized Allez. They have some entry level bikes for $700-$1000. That should include a fitting as well. The last thing you want to do is guess your bike size, be wrong, and hate riding your bike. You'll also establish a relationship with a local shop which makes warranty work and repairs easier. Just a thought.
Also, Wiz, I'm fairly certain I used to work with you in college at a store I won't mention of Siegen.

*Pending stupid question*
Safe to assume a road bike will make this a little more easier to accomplish? I typically average 10-15 miles on my hybrid(Raleigh Misceo) with 20 being my longest that I've done a handful of times. I'd like to go further, faster, etc but I'm starting to think I'll eventually be limited by my bike.

Not yet. Only been riding seriously for about a year and a half. Planning on it though.

quote:Definitely will be limited if you want to start doing longer rides. It doesn't take long for your back to adjust either. Get a bike fit too, it's very much worth it.

triguys hate everyone.
And automotive operators hate you all if you're in the middle of the road with your Lance Armstrong spandex shite on and foam aerodynamic helmet on that's half the size of your bicycle. Hollering 3 feet man, gimme 3 feet. I tell ya what, keep riding down the middle of the freakin road and you're going to end up with 6 feet, and a dirt nap.

I gave you an upvote, because you had the courage to say what no one else is willing to say. You really are the voice of a generation

Looking at your user name, I believe you are correct.

Not this year. It has been really nice to actually have teammates to work for though. At least I am coming away with some pretty decent cash.

jump in, man. i did the tour of LA two weekends ago and i'll bet with your mileage you're riding more than half of the cat 5 field. there was a mix of total n00bs, more experienced guys who just don't have 10 mass starts to cat up, dudes with a triathlon background who were strong but still learning, and some impressively fast guys.

have you been watching freaking brian toone do the RAAM??
he was 9th yesterday but the tracker shows him offroad today..some type of roadwork detour or something he's stuck in.

For that budget, definitely buy used.
Yea. Picked up a Specialized Allez Sport that was 2 yrs old in great condition on CL for $500.

Not really. I kind of forgot it was happening. My teammates race Nationals tomorrow and Sunday.

Do you all just look through Craig's List? Or are there more reputable places to search?

Thanks man. I'm definitely going to jump in it this summer since I'm getting more confident about my mileage.
