The inside lights work but the ice dispenser doesn't work and the internal electronic settings for temp in both the freezer and fridge are out. There are the letters "hrs" flickering in the custom cool setting window. It's a GE Profile. Is it dead or just in need of a minor repair? Thanks.

I've had it since 2005 without a problem, until now.

Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?

Our Samsung does that occasionally when the power goes out. Idk why it works but if you hold down the top two buttons on the control panel it resets the motherboard and kicks on again. Try googling hrs flashing GE refrigerator. Probably come up with a way to reset.

Most likely the main control board is out, unless you have a three phase converter (it has it's own control board) then it could be that.

Neither are minor, but if you diy you could get it done relatively cheap $110-175 bought online. Each board will cost a little over $200 from a tech.

It appears there was a recall on the control boards for models made six months or so after mine. The pics I've seen all show a board that looks just like mine. I'm going to call the GE recall number tomorrow to see what they can help me with.

I have to work on a '06 profile today. I'll take some pics incase you need to know how to access your board(s).

Thanks for your answers. I didn't realize the seemingly erratic flashing "hrs" was an error code. It was the main control board. I ordered a replacement from GE, installed it and now it works fine.

Better get your new fridge before John Kerry gets Obama to ban them.

Well, an ice box would be simpler.

Had a freezer control board go out like 1 week after warranty expired. Living in middle of nowhere I was looking at $100 just for the service guy to come out for a diagnosis.

Well, he did come out, took one look at it, advised I order control board off Amazon and left. No charge. He said he'd eventually make his money off me with future stuff anyway.

That was now about 8-9 years ago and only problem was when I spent 6 months working away from home. Lost freezer FULL of meat, fish, chicken, veggies when power surged and tripped breaker so freezer stayed without power for full month at least before I got back. (meats/fish had liquefied, puddle of proteins leaked out onto floor even) Took 3 months + to get that rotted flesh smell out, most people and websites said to just trash it and buy new. It's fine now

Unplug it, if it's new, then plug it in after 20-30 seconds.
