What is the board's thoughts on recycling?

I recycle probably twice as much stuff as I throw in the trash.

I feel good about it, but the cynic in me says that the whole thing is a scam.

P.S. Please don't move this to the OT.
1. It's food related
2. I don't care what the OT thinks unless it is good Cialis/Viagra debate.

I've read where converting recycled material into new products takes more energy than just making new products from scratch, but I still like the idea that it's less waste in landfills and less resources from the ground.

I'm sure it is to some degree, but who is getting scammed? It's not like you and I are losing anything because of it. I don't think.

We recycle cans, plastics, boxes, etc. Not perfect about it, but I'd say we get about 80-85% of what can be recycled in there.

I've never recycled anything in my life.

My recycling bin was either stolen or washed away or something several months ago and I have never gotten around to calling for another one.

I don't really care that much.

we got rid of curbside recycling and I cut backed drinking cokes, so I don't recycle. I even toss aluminum cans in the trash now. I used to save cans, but you need so much for it to be worth anything you have these large piles of bags full of cans.
Then have to go to the scrap yard and get nails in your tires. Just not worth it.

If we had curbside recycling I would go back to having two cans in the kitchen.

Good point. I picture it just being dumped somewhere and the scam is "make the public think we are doing something good with their trash."

Surprised. You seem like a "granola" type. Maybe it's the picture.

My thoughts. Its kind of a scam to make people feel better about themselves, because yes, it does take more "energy" than building something new. But it doesn't hurt me so I try to do it when possible.

Yeah my cans are right next to each other, so it's lazy for me to not do it. I'm also trying to impress my cute hippy neighbor and maybe this is a start for me.

I'm sort of OK with that. I hate the thought of those milk bottles in a landfill. Or aluminum. That would seem to be easy to recycle.

You are on the right track

Find out what music she likes and play that from your place, works like a charm.

Energy, maybe, but I think the benefit is more from resource and landfill standpoints.

If recycling is made easy, I will do it. I used to not recycle in my apartment because we didn't have any curbside services or on-site recycling dumpsters. Now that I have curbside, I do it just because why not? Doesn't take any extra effort on my part.

Sounds pretty illegal.

I recycle because it's easy and convenient, the city supplies two separate bins and picks them up curbside once a week. It's no sweat off my back to toss aluminum, plastic and glass into a separate bin and keep the stuff out of landfills.

I'm the same.

I know. But I am pretty convinced the whole government is criminal.

Is anyone really still surprised when the government or its employees does something other than what you expected them to?

Its so easy to recycle, why not? I also compost and get a nice product to spread on my veggie garden every year.

We try to recycle everything we can. It becomes difficult since things that seemingly should be recycled aren't.

Damn, I used to have a connection for these. Always wanted to install one, but we always had enough rain it wasn't justifiable.
