I've looked at different brands and models. Not looking to spend $800 for a high level as I'd rather my wife just clean for that price. Just looking for a $3-400 robot to take care of the wood floors every few days.

I'd like a smarter one to stay out of certain areas and not clean in a totally random pattern.

The new roomba costs 900 dollars. That is ridiculous. Get the 200 dollar neato. I have the neato bot vac and it does very good

I looked at both but it just seemed like the roomba was prone to replacing alot of parts. Ive replaced the filter once on my neato and thats it. maybe once or twice since Ive had it(over a year) Ive brought it outside and took it completely apart, cleaned it thoroughly, and blew everything off with my air compressor.

With the neato, outside of a catastrophic failure, there just isnt anything that will break. its engineered really well.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. How often does it get stuck? Does it track dirt or smear anything? How loud is it?

As far as getting stuck, mine has backed itself up the baseboard once in like 2 years. Easily transitions from hardwood to rugs.

No tracking, no smearing.

Nothing to it at all. Dump dirt bin, take filter outside and bang on side of your house to clean every once in a while. Brush is a cartridge that easily pulls out to remove any built up hair that has gotten wrapped up in it.

Very quiet, you can shut a door, stand outside the door and not hear it as it vacuums a room.

First run, vacuum with your usual upright then let the Neato run, you will be stunned. I feel like a child at Christmas when I go to check the dirtbin

I am leaning towards getting a Neato, but, if AI becomes self-aware and decides that Humankind is a nuisance, what are the chances that my Neato tries to kill me?

Does the xv21 model let you control areas for it to avoid? I don't want it to go in one room but I don't want to keep that door closed.

Yes it comes with 10-12 feet of barrier stripping that you can cut to fit and lay down.
