The German Shepard was called an "Alsation" during war time. The breed was used by both sides to fight during world war 1 But the British didn’t want to call their dogs German so they decided on the name "Alsatian." Later, after the second world war, the Brits changed the name back to German Shepherd Dog however there are still plenty of people who still refer to it as an "Alsation" today.

The Emu War was fought in 1932 between the Australian military and actual emus. An unorthodox attempt to use the military to cull the emu population, which was a major nuisance to farmers, the war must be considered an avian victory. The birds proved far too elusive for the military to effectively engage, with the Australian OIC praising their maneuverability and resilience in his official after-action report, although he was able to (thankfully, seriously, and hilariously) report no casualties on the human side.

The easternmost part of Alaska is actually west of the westernmost part of Alaska.

Somewhere between 1-10 percent of people of European decent are immune to AIDS.

Truly something I had no idea about.

It is estimated that the proportion of people with some form of resistance to HIV is under 1%.

quote:

In 1994, Stephen Crohn became the first person discovered to be completely resistant to HIV in all tests performed. In early 2000, researchers discovered a small group of sex workers in Nairobi, Kenya who were estimated to have sexual contact with 60 to 70 HIV positive clients a year without signs of infection. Researchers from Public Health Agency of Canada have identified 15 proteins unique to those virus-free prostitutes. Later, however some sex workers were discovered to have contracted the virus, leading Oxford University researcher Sarah Rowland-Jones to believe continual exposure is a requirement for maintaining immunity.

Because of the international dateline, Alaska is our northern most, western most, and eastern most state.

Marie Antoinette never actually said "let them eat cake." It was anti-monarch propaganda published at the time to discredit her (fake news).

ETA- There is a very small section of Panama where the sun rises on the Pacific Ocean and sets on the Atlantic Ocean. Only place in the world this occurs.
