Cheetahs evolved in what is now North America and traveled West across the land bridge. The earliest skeletons of cheetah predecessors were found in West Virginia. They evolved over time as their territory drifted over to Eurasia.

This explains why American Pronghorns (antelope) are so much faster than the apex predators which consider them prey on the continent. 20mph faster than wolves, for example.

Ray Harroun won the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911, with an average speed of 74.59 mph.

In 1946, Lee Harvey Oswald lived at 311 Vermont Avenue in Covington, Louisiana.

The Apollo 13 crew of Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert have traveled the farthest from Earth than any human - 248,655 miles.

Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and King George V of the United Kingdom - monarchs of three of the major warring nations in World War I - were all first cousins. Their grandmother was Queen Victoria.

Great thread. Like those facts that put into context the time period.

Oxford University is older than the Aztecs

Cleopatra lived closer to the building of Pizza Hut than the pyramids

Kenny Walker once played 12 minutes in an NBA game and recorded nothing. No turnovers, shots, assists. Nothing. A mystery to this day that still baffles scholars.

There is a very small section of Panama where the sun rises on the Pacific Ocean and sets on the Atlantic Ocean. Only place in the world this occurs.

That's misleading.

There are places on the Azuero peninsula where the sun rises over the Pacific. And there are places--Colon, for example--where the sun sets on the Atlantic.

But no one place where it does both.

the original unit of measurement for a foot was determined by the size of the kings foot who was in power at the time. Depending on the size of the kings foot, one might actually have a foot long dong.

The tallest building on I-10 between Houston and Baton Rouge is the building formerly known as the CM Tower in Lake Charles.

Baton Rouge is the only place between Jacksonville Florida and LA where I-10 permanently goes down to one lane,
