anyone ever taken it? thoughts?

im going to see my Dr Friday and was going to speak with him about an entry level low dosage anti anxiety/ocd/depression type of drug to help me.

im scared of the valiums and the highly addictive ones out there, it looks like Zoloft has some good reviews.

just in the past year or two ive started getting panic attacks when on a plane or in tight spaces and have gotten really OCD about little things. need something to take the edge off.

There was a long thread about SSRIs in general a couple days ago: LINK /

Like the last thread, this is going to mostly be a back and forth between "man up and quit relying on drugs" and "some people actually benefit from medication."

One of the Psychiatrist at work, does a seminar for all new hires at the hospital. He spoke about depression, and how it affects your heart. The medication he recommends is Prozac. They use it for patients at the hospital, because it works relatively quick (a week or so), and it's non habit forming. You may ask about it as well.

I took Zoloft for a few months.

Loved that it was an appetite suppressor for me.

But the downside was limp dick.

Yes. To get off effexor, which is hell to quit

Please don't tell your psychiatrist what to put you on. They know shite about neurotransmitters that you don't. It only took me five years to figure out my Dr knew better than I do

Wellbutrin is good for anxiety too. And no withdrawals

I'm 90% sure they won't put you on a benzo to start unless you have a panic attack in the office

Same with me. And I didn't notice any difference while I was on it, although I didn't really give it long enough to run its course

Sexual side effects sucked for a while. Was very hard to 'finish the job.' But, the first time I finally managed to get over the hump was incredible. Then, I pretty much got used to it.

I eventually stopped taking it due to excessive sweating. I was walking about a mile to class each morning and was a hot mess by the time I got there. It took a long time for that to dissipate even after I stopped the drug (like over a year).

It did work well for my depression/moods, but I would not take it again due to the side effects.

I just started Zoloft two weeks ago - the sides sucked for the first 10 days and now it is fine besides making me a bit tired. I take it in the morning with breakfast. I think it is helping, but this is my first time on any meds like this.

I've never taken them but have a few issues from my military service that I manage without them. However, I had a vasectomy last Friday and they gave me a Vallium, it took the edge off and I haven't been that relaxed in 12 years. I was thinking about doing the same thing but going through the VA. Just don't wanton to affect the last few years of my career if I have to release info that I am on it.
