Same here.. But that never stopped me or my sister from getting to them whenever we wanted to. Now, the worst thing I could do when I was 13 or 14 was aim chat with a friend and I understand it's a different ballgame now with social media and everything.

That said thinking that taking their phones away at night is gonna stop them from getting into trouble is just ignorant. Teenagers will find a way to do whatever they want to do. Parenting has to go beyond just taking away their electronics at night.

This type of bull shite is being vastly overstated in this thread. Girls with good parents and strong father figures are way less likely to whore it up in college. Some of yall are just trying to create some "good girl gone bad" fantasy

Yea this guy was wah outlandish with his remarks. I think most were just trying to say she will do what she wants. If she was forced to do something she didn't want to and didn't understand why, when she had the oppertunity to act our she very well could.

But she is still less likely to get into trouble than kids whose parents let them do whatever they want

I'm not saying let her do absolutely whatever she wants, I'm saying maybe a little more freedom to make the right decisions on her own.

Your kids.....Just ask her if the kids jump off the bridge will she follow? Tell her to be a leader and not a follower. I let my kids keep phones and PC's in their rooms. They are 20 and 17 now. They made good decisions. It just how you raise them. Not everyone's way is the same. So just do you and your be okay.

Trust but verify. Like I said earlier, let them have the freedom to use the internet and social media. But let them know up front everything they do and say on line will be monitored by you the parent.

We don't allow them to keep their cell phones in their rooms at night and don't think this should be any different

What's the plan for monitoring her activities when she goes to college? Microchip tracking device?

You should have had sex on top. That way you would have had boys and wouldnt have had to worry about this.

We'll. when I was 15 I just got my first cell phone. Me and the ole lady were sexting like no tomorrow every week night. Actually I think we invented that shite.

I have a daughter in high school and another in middle school. They both have their own cell phones and laptops that they keep in their rooms. High school one has a 4.2 GPA, is in the gifted program, and is a varsity athlete.
Middle schooler has a 4.4 GPA, gifted, and starter and team caption.

They understand that as long as the achievements I've listed above continue, then the freedom they have with their electronics will too. If they start slipping, the electronics are the first thing to go.

We've had extensive discussions about the dangers to be found on the internet and social media. The know that I periodically check to see what they are up to. They know where the boundaries are and the consequences if the choose to cross them. Now I get sit back and see how much of my parenting stuck. So far, so good.....

Not reading the entire thread, but I do the same thing with my kids. Each have to plug up their phones/computers in the kitchen before bedtime. Not because I don't trust them, but because I don't want them to be distracted from getting a good night's sleep. Phones are distracting and they're on them enough. Unplug.

ETA- I went back and read some of the replies. A 14 year old isn't the same as a college freshman and those posters trying to equate the two, have probably never raised children. A lot changes from 14 to 18.

Have to admit, that has crossed my mind, usually after the fact. I think once my parents pass away I will give up porn.

I don't mind it right now so much because my grandpa and great-grandparents in heaven are probably just so amazed at seeing teenage latinas giving blowjobs and getting bent over the side of the bed that they don't even notice me jerking it.

Having my mom see that shite would just be creepy. I hope she lives to 110.
