Not to derail the thread, but have you come across any Samsung dryers with drums that continue to spin even when the dryer is off? If so what was the problem?

The girl on the phone told me the repair takes 15-20 minutes. Now, does she know what she is talking about? Idk.
I guess I'll take the money and worst case the washer starts spinning out of control and breaks. Then I buy a new one?

I have not. But that sounds like a control issue to me.

When I went online it says I have to send them proof of purchase of a new washer so I can't just take the money and sit on it.
I still haven't made my decision on what I'm going to do. I actually like the washer and don't want to pay for a replacement of a working washing machine, but I strongly suspect the repair is crap. I am actually seeing online they are utilizing Dish Network's 3rd party installers to do the repairs... so that's not comforting.
Looks like I need to find my consumer reports password and see what the recommended washing machines are.

I think the problem mainly comes from people overloading and washing stuff they shouldn't like water resistant stuff.

They come in, remove the top, and install metal reinforcing strips and put the top back on. That is it.

That is how long mine took.

I have one of these listed and have already had the "repair" for the latest recall issue performed. Does that mean I am in their system now? Do I need to call again? If so, what do I tell them about what you posted? It doesnt appear to be on the website so how is the general public supposed to know? Are they just planning to let you wait until you try to get a repair done next year and then say, "Sorry, can't repair it."?

I have been wary of Samsung appliances for a while.
Just had to replace a top end Samsung front load due to bearing failure(approx 3 yrs old). Cost damn near as much to repair as new so i went with a differnet brand top load. ALso had bought a red samsung and wouldn't you know it they don't make that color anymore

so they didn't change the suspension or the pump?
each of which has been totally replaced due to poor original design. (you can't buy the suspension or pump they came with)
that is shitty.
So you get this fix and you will still be on the hook when your suspensions springs fail or when your pump falls off and leaks all over your house.
Shitty of Samsung.

A lot of repairmen won't touch Samsung anyway. Dial One is much larger than me and they don't touch them already.
Samsung would rather you go through them. I was a Samsung factory authorized repair person for a while, but they only paid $65 per repair and then my markup on parts. Was just not worth it, that's a service call for me without doing anything.

Yeah, sucks, but on front loaders when the bearing fails the only repair is to replace the outer drum, which takes three hours of a pain in the arse labor so it's an expensive job and the part is $300+.
Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, etc have a bearing issue on their top load Cabrio series, but thankfully the bearing is replaceable by itself. Up to 2012 you had to replace the tub on those as well.

Well mine is on there WA50F9A8DSP/A2. I haven't had any issues in 2 years...I'll have to look into all this. Thanks for posting.

Is the control board available on line?
Posted on 12/28/16 at 11:19 pm to Napoleon
Thanks for the info, we had no idea. We bought the washer/dryer set from Lowe's about a month before our house was finished being built and had them hold it until then. The recall notice was obviously sent to our old address and we never got it.
I took care of it online LINK. They gave me the option on repairing or a $514 rebate on a new one.

Printed out the forms to get the rebate. Want to buy a Speed Queen, but will have to order one. Glad I've got until November to get a new one bought and get the forms sent in.
This is basically my first unexpected chore for 2017, so Happy New Year to all!

Slightly off-topic: do you recommend the Maytag commercial brands? Like Bravos?
Posted on 3/17/17 at 11:45 am to Napoleon
Thanks Nap!
Got the new Speed Queen delivered today, affixed my serial number labels to the form, made copy of receipt showing I got the new washer and that the old one is being disposed of properly.
Here's the new Speed Queen that replaced it!

Beautiful piece of technology. Makes me wonder what washing machines will look like in another 50 years.
