I'll let you in on a secret.

You don't live in the south.

Sprite was called "green Coke" in my house by my sons when they were young. But, to my knowledge, they came up with that on their own.

I'm going a little farther back...
to my grandfather all bleach was Sure-Clean. This remained for him even when Clorox started making inroads down here.

He worked for Swift in Harvey, but to him their Jewel Oil was his term for shortening. Most of us say Crisco, now.

Hoover is another. At one time it was like "google" and became both the term for any vacuum cleaner AND the act of vacuum cleaning the floor. "Hoover the floor."

Weed Eater for string-trimmers, that for a while was also a verb.

Polo Shirt actually is a generic term. Ralph Lauren trademarked it later to much controversy.

It's the type of shirt polo players wear.

Uhaul when referring to renting a moving truck

Which is why renting a Uhaul tends to actually be more expensive than other companies(ex: Budget, Penske, etc). Guess they rely on people just naturally going to their company for a moving truck and not shopping around first.
