We found him online during covid lockdown.
We've watched ever week since. Me twice a week. He really changed a lot for me in my life.
Got to meet him on a Lenten mission last year.
Loved him.
Going to work on saving his vedoes from his youtube page.
During covid he'd have mass outside or at the local outdoor rodeo arena. They'd haul everything to have an outdoor mass just to be able to serve the people.
Amazing.

What was the talent he walked away from to enter priesthood?

All his homilies are on the church's website if you're interested.

He had a successful business, engineering maybe? I heard the story years ago on a visit to his parish

At the top in what way? Serious question
What we call "success", Q. Personal power, status, affluence, adventurous spirit with proper vision of living for worthy challenges, and hopefully 'worldly' loves that reach to the spirit.
Father Mark found it somewhat ironic as he left the hectic life of "Administrative Management" and as he undertook the great work that he did in reviving the RCC in the Amite area, and the spirit of those in the CC. It was so big and successful that he was immersed neck deep in "Administrative Management". He got it. He told me one time in a serious vein about a serious subject that "there are no coincidences". I think about today, and the car spinning him into his next life. There is no doubt that his Mary was waiting on the other side of the 'tunnel'.
I think about the guy in the other thread, lamenting that he slaughtered the cow that he raised, and likely petted and became appreciative of. It's all about Love. The answer to your "serious question". If one has that love, it's like a pair of yellow shades, everything is yellow. (Brilliant sunset this evening; no coincidences). With Love, the whole World is colored with appreciation, respect, reverence, and a spiritual urge and worthy challenge to serve said vision...and share it. One does not have to be a Priest to do that, one can be anything. An LSU player or a Bud Light truck driver or a working joe like the many on this Forum.
I do not know how much Love was in FM's heart, but I know that he was committed to knowing the Truth and following it with abandon. And given where this Nation is headed, that is a good thing and our only hope that we may long remain "at the top". Secure and affluent.

Mark is family. Always a rock for me growing up. Absolutely a punch in the gut to get this news earlier today. He was a central figure in a significant turning point in my life and ill never get the chance to truly express to him what it meant to me. So many chances. And unbelievably, im scanning the OT drinking scotch, trying to distract myself and i see this thread. So proud to know how he made an impression on others. Will be forever missed.

Probably coming back from the retreat center he helped start right across the border in MS.

Huge loss. He was that priest ppl travel that extra mile to attend his church versus the one in their town. He was that good. I lost faith in the church years ago then my mom sent me his homily. From that day on I travel every Sunday from Acadiana to attend his mass. He related to regular folk. Guess I will find father Brady he is the next best one.

Yep. Thankful to have got to hear and meet him.
Also thankful there are two priest like this in LC diocese. They can truly make the difference in a life.
One of them and I were talking one day after a class he gave for my son's First Communion and he asked what we are using to teach my son ashe knew so many of the answers...
I told him our homeschool program and about Father Mark and how much we love him and how much he's taught our family. We'd watch him every week together on TV. Turns out they were in seminary together.
Well a few weeks later my wife sends me a post where Father Mark was invited to our church for a Lenten Mission.
To have a priest pay that much attention and make it happen really makes you want to out in the extra mile as well. Haven't met a harder working priest ever. I started attending the Latin masses not long after as well. Have enjoyed them immensely.
I'll attend mass multiple times a week if able now. The kids all go. Our family unit has calmed down so much. The last 4 years really have been life changing.
Priest like Father Mark are a gift. I've been lucky to have met not 1 but 3 of them.

Fr. Mark was a great man and will be missed. If you had any doubts about your faith, he was the one to talk to. Straight forward, no nonsense, yet compassionate.
