Hearing it took place on I-55. Apparently traffic was stopped and he didn’t see it in time. Swerved off and hit a tree. That’s all I know.

A real great guy! I was worried that he was the Father Mark the OP was referring to.

My prayers go out to those who knew Father Mark Beard.

His homilies will be surely missed. Was never afraid of speaking truth. A truly great priest.

Damn that’s sad. That guy was a stud and gave up everything to be a priest because he felt it was his calling. Not your traditional entrant to the priesthood. He will be missed

He will be missed. He was an unabashed man of God. Prayers, Fr Mark.

I love Father Mark, and very much respect him. He completely changed Amite, and people of all Faiths looked up to him. His tragic passing will be a shock to the many that worked under his inspiration, vision, bravery and leadership.

I had many questions to ask him, but he was always so busy. He quit the 'high life' way back in order to serve what he believed was the best way (RCC) to answer a calling that he felt within. He was a very handsome man, powerful presence and could have cruised through life at the top. But he answered that call to serve something greater than Worldly adventures, unlike many on his level who do not. Total commitment.

I had listened to his Homily re the potentially abusive Government 'control' dangers of "digital money" not long ago, where he took it to em', like he always did. We teased him about being on 'The List" and he said he knew he'd be "getting a call". He knew there were problems but was honest about them.

Though I am not a part of his beloved Church, I hope to be a better person for having known Father Mark. He was there when I needed someone of his stature. And given these troublesome times, his presence will be sorely missed. He knew what is coming.

Thank you, Father Mark. I'll try to do better. See you in the next life.

His story and calling are truly amazing. Here’s a link to his telling of his last ‘calling’ before he entered the Seminary at Sacred Heart.

Mark Beard - Skeptic

For those that didn’t know him, he never did anything half-assed - always dove in head first, A man truly blessed with the Passion

At the top in what way? Serious question

I never heard of him, but sounds like a good man
