At last check, the average list price of a ticket to the February 7 event was a whopping $5,659.60. Some individual seats are being sold for several times more than this. One -- seat 138, row 22 -- is available for an unbelievable $25,400.
I know there are people who make more in one day than I have and will my entire life. So maybe they aren't the ones I'm talking about. But for normal non 1% people, I'm asking this one question:

I don't care if it's the Super Bowl, NBA championship, Stanley Cup, Wimbledon, the Masters, the World Cup, the World Series, or the national championship games in college football, baseball, or basketball - be honest - is any game worth this kind of $$$?

What's in your wallet?

Not worth the price, but going to the Superbowl is a bucket-list thing for a lot of people. So i get it.

Paying many hundreds of dollars to go WATCH a sport or concert is ridiculous to me. No way I'd pay in the thousands.

But if other people want to spend their money that way, whatever.

I wouldn't either. People spend $50k on trucks and cars and other dumb amounts on boats and houses

I am pretty cheap, but I agree with this...that is an opportunity that only comes along one or two times in your life...

Depends, sometimes there's an emotional connection like the memories of your father and you going to games and then your team finnaly making it all the way. If you can afford it why not, but if you're poor then its a complete waste

I have a few problems with spending very large amounts of money on a sporting event.

1.) Chances are that the game happens every year (LSU v. Bama; Michigan v. OSU; Super Bowl) or multiple times a year (El Clasico; Merseyside Derby; Duke v. UNC). So it's not like it's some "once in a lifetime event", like maybe a boxing match, or a hometown favorite/underdog playing a longtime champion in Wimbledon or something like that.

2.) It's not like you won't get to see the event, as most, if not all, major sporting events are on TV.

3.) If the team you follow passionately is participating in the event and they lose, the bad taste in your mouth will never leave. Ever.

My guidelines are like this: I'll pay twice face value for a regular season LSU game (say, $200 for LSU v. Bama). If a bowl/playoff game is more than that, I'll just watch on TV.

As far as paying thousands of dollars...well, a person could have a very nice..VERY NICE...10-day vacation in Italy or Spain or New Zealand for $5000. As far as I'm concerned, I'll take that over an LSU game or any other game, no matter what the stakes are.

I spent 3k for a pair of tix to the 2102 BCS game against Notre Dame and it was worth every penny. Told my wife I would have paid $6k after the game.

Definitely a bucket list deal not something I will do many times in my life.

My Super Bowl ticket from SB44 in Miami for the Saints victory, upper deck end zone of Sun Life stadium, has a face value of $800. Was it worth it? Yes, because the Saints won. But overall that is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for an event.

never is an event in which tickets are sold, and is able to be viewed on TV is ever worth the price. Once the event is over, what do you have to show for the money you spend, that someone who watches on TV doesn't? You can say you were there worth $0, and a ticket stub, worth $0.

Glad I didn't go to the next one...

But that was a blowout! National Championship tickets are fascinating to me because the price fluctuates wildly with location. Miami & New Orleans are tough tickets but this year in Glendale club seats were under $200 on game day. And that was a great matchup.

To me the only way super bowl tickets are "worth it" is if you're 1) shitting money 2) with a big client who demands to go and will definitely throw enough business at you to make it worthwhile or 3) making it a once in a lifetime trip, like the Saints fans who went.

I think the teams for national championship games make a big difference too.

And if it's a team like Bama that if you miss this year you know they'll be back.

I have season tickets to the Saints. When they went to the Super Bowl, I was picked to buy tickets at face value. They were $800 each. Someone we knew was picked also to get the $500 face value tickets. They let me buy them. I sold the $800 ones for a profit. When we picked up the $500 ones in Ft Lauderde, they were better seats than the $800 ones. I askedmyself that if I had to pay a premium to go and the Saints lost, would I regret it. I said I wouldn't. So I would have paid a premium to go if I didn't get lucky to get 4 tickets at face value. I can't knock someone for paying high amounts of money to go. Most people spend money on something others think is retarded. In the end, it is your money and you do what makes you happy.

I wouldn't pay more a few hundred dollars to see my favorite team in the super bowl (NYG). Now if the Pels made the NBA finals I'd pay 2-3k for a seat. NFL just isn't as fun to watch in person as is college

It's all relative. If you are a CEO for a large public company and make like 5 million a year, there are only so many boats and houses you can buy. I mean say you take home 50k a month. Droppin 5k on the superbowl is 3 days salary or 50 bucks for someone making 25k a year.
