I read that only 6 states allow anonymity, South Carolina being one of them. Several allow a trust or llc to collect the winnings. But many states, you're screwed, and they'll print your name.
Just make sure you have an international trip planned once you collect, and be ready to hide. Damn near everyone you've ever known will start coming out of the woodwork.
You have over 6 months to claim the ticket...sign it and put it in a safe place (ie bank safety deposit box). Wait 4 to 6 months and by this summer, the media will no longer care who won the January lottery.
As for friends and family, be prepared to say "No", or be prepared to lose a significant chunk (and eventually all) of your money.

What would you legitimately do with that kind of money?? Where on earth would you put it, and what's the process if you win. I'd imagine lawyers, CPAs and Financial advisors would be involved immediately right?

Yes, immediately. Immediately after the hookers and blow.

You get the financial/legal team assembled, then get the cash, the fly to Colombia for the hookers and blow.

1. Sign back of ticket
2. Put it in safety deposit box at bank
3. Get hookers and blow on credit

Powerball-$700 million
I remember the last time it was really high. Some unemployed black lady with 7 kids won.
You never see a white collar person win the Powerball.

I'm pretty sure an unclaimed ticket for $700 million would create even more media interest as the expiration date approaches (which is 180 days, I believe). Just get your ducks in a row, and claim your prize as soon as you've got your legal & financial team in place.
Besides, if the cash value after taxes is in the $400 million range and you invest that at a 3% yield, you'll have foregone $6 million in interest by waiting 6 months. You could give that to your friends and family, you tight bastard! What's the point in having $400 million if you are unwilling to spend/share some it with your family and friends? Seriously, WTF does one person do with that kind of money? All of your "new" friends are likely to be gold diggers. I'd much rather throw some gigantic bones to old friends and my family.

Just found out someone won $2 Million yesterday, matched all 5 without the power ball and with the double thing. They bought the ticket at the same gas station I did in Loving, NM. The place only sold 2,000 tickets yesterday, I got the wrong 3. So close.

I hope no one wins...should be over a billion dollars if we go without a winner for another time or two...
