The prices on the air cooled 911's is insane! You can buy a 2017 for less than a 90's model turbo.

The 90's turbos are bringing $150k plus.

When did this insanity begin?

Does the Duponte(sp) Registry still exist? Used to love that magazine.

The air cooled is considered the best engine Porsche ever made. Getting very hard to find them.

They're out there, but they're bringing premium prices.

It's worse than the older Hemi insanity from a few years ago.

My BIL had a '79 SC Targa that he sold a couple years ago. Said he could have gotten double today what he sold it for a couple years ago.

Right after the market crash in '09 prices started climbing. 993s have kind of always been insane though, the new story is how expensive 964s have gotten. They've never been considered all that great, but they are fun and can go forever. They used to be everywhere for $20k, triple that for a good one now.

Is that a joke? Porsche is continually at the top of reliability ratings - only bested by fricking Lexus this year. They've been made well since forever. Not uncommon to see an old 911 with 200k on the odometer - and they *still* bring big money.

Fun fact: Porsche was using a 6-digit odometer LONG before GMC. That should tell you something about the intentions on longevity.

It's a pretty common theme. Once a generation hits their 30's and starts making money they buy the cars of their youths and prices fly up.

Do you know how many later Gen Xers and Millennials had a poster of a Countach on their wall? 10 years ago you could pick one up for 40k, now they are like 150k and climbing.

Yep, my 2001 996 has 186,500 miles on it. Only had one big repair and that was just the Air/Oil Separator. $2000. The motors are pretty bullet proof.

A few years ago? It's still going on now.

Air cooled Porsches, Hemis and MB 390SLs are all the rage now.

Like the Ferrari Daytona, they will drop again in a few years, and a new batch will get hot.

Or maybe the conversion of kilometers to miles...
999,999 kms = 621370.571 miles.

I've been thinking hard about a 2-3 year old Pamamera with under 30k miles. If I wasn't married I could afford the turbo (and new) but guess I may settle for the 3.6L V6 AWD.

I really want to keep my 2010 F150 (paid off) as a 2nd vehicle but the note and tax without a trade may keep me from doing it.

When people realized that those cars are so much better than the newer ones.

you never heard of a car appreciating in value? The one that gets me is something like a 911 GT3 RS 4.0 trading hands at nearly 2.5x sticker and only being 6 years old, thats not even classic age wise. There's been a run on all cars with a stick, look at ferrari and lamborghini, even run of the mill 430 or murcielago with a stick are $75-100k over comparable semi-automatics which oddly enough cost $10k more to get back in the day.

The PDK is great in the newer ones, but I drove one and just didn't want one, but its an amazing product if you're looking for a daily driver at least these days. I had a 993 years ago and the ride was so rough, its amazing how far they've come, the new turbo drives as smooth as a bentley.

My uncle traded in his 993 C4S for a new Sequoia back in '02 or so. I would never stop losing sleep over that.

I will never stop giving him shite for it.

On the other hand, the Sequoia still runs good with 249k. So.
