Doubled in price about 3 years ago. Same thing is starting to happen to 80's-early 90's Mustangs and Grand Nationals. The good ones are quickly getting out of reach for the average buyer. Even though they built a bunch, the body style is, and will be, in great demand. Next to watch is is gen 1 Vipers. 1992 is the year to own, since they were hand built.

On the other hand, the Sequoia still runs good with 249k. So.

I'd love to find out where that 993 is today.

Screaming
I know a guy that has a 911 IROC Carrera with a 3 liter with straight pipes and 9k redline. Sounded like hell opened up when running.
The video above is pretty close sound wise.

Everything Porsche besides the IMS issue years has rapidly appreciated. Even the 944s are getting expensive

The bubble began about 5Years ago...

No different than mid-year Vettes, Mopars, etc.

It too will burst.

Yeah, asking $185k for a '97 model like I posted, and actually getting that for it are two different things.

Absolutely... Great time to sell, the idiots buying will lose their arse.

I remember laughing at the guys playing $100k+ for 340/727 Cudas.

I'm looking at 996 turbos and they are starting to climb. Researched prices from a few years ago and they're already about 8-10% higher today.

Not really in a position to buy at the moment, but I feel like I'll never get one because by the time I'll have enough to afford one at today's prices, they'll have gone up 10k in value.

He sold it when hitting hard times. Something like 30k. Today, with that racing engine, they're worth $500k.

I do not doubt it at all.

That scenario is very common. After one generation prices itself too high, the next lower price generation begins to appreciate because buyers then begin buying that generation so demand skyrockets and supply plumets.

Cascade effect.

This happens to all 911's. They will bottom out, stay for a few years and then appreciate. This is only 911's, I don't see Cayennes or other models ever appreciating.

My only hope is that 996's stay artificially low (relative to their performance/drivability/reliability) because porsche purists hate them for their water cooled engines and the scrambled egg headlights.

I bought a new 991 CS a little over a year ago...It has had zero issues at 40k miles...bulletproof.

It is the last of the naturally aspirated motors, as the 2017 models all saw a turbo. There will be a growing interest in the naturally aspirated motors soon just as there is a fan base of the last of the air cooled from 1996.

I am done with the German car merry go round...there is nothing like a 911.

A lot of old farts driving the old 911´s around north Atlanta. It´s a cult.

Even seen old farts with the 928, like they´re a big deal.

Sad.

You can pick up a 2012 Carrera S 991 (current body--sort of...2017 is called a 991.2--many changes, but not enough to rename the body style), with 40-50k miles for $35-45k.
In 10 years or so from now, they should see the same inflation you are seeing with the air cooled motors as this is was the first year (2012) of the 991, which saw a total redesign and a wheelbase that grew by 4" and an overall length grow by 2". This moved the motor away from the rear a tad thus helping with the "arse heavy" issue that has plagued Porsche on the track for a time.

As stated earlier, 2016 models are the last of the naturally aspirated flat 6 motors.

I'm holding out, hoping you are wrong; but current book value says you are soooo right.
