It would be times like this I would recommend visitors take a trip out to Whiskey River on a Sunday afternoon (RIP). Do they have anything similar these days? That was so much fun!

If you are going to Avery Island, I would go eat breakfast at Victors in downtown New Iberia. If you don't make it for breakfast, go across the street and eat at Bojangle's. Good hibachi and sushi.

C'est Bon in Mermentau, which is approx 45 minutes West of Lafayette. Bit of a drive but some of the best boiled seafood/gumbo/etouffe in South La.

Unpopular opinion:

The one in Lake Charles is so superior that I won’t return to the one in Lafayette.

If you are going to Avery Island

> Bon Creole or Pelicans On The Bayou (very informal)
> Jane’s (a little nicer atmosphere and good Chinese food in addition to good Cajun)
> Legnon’s Boucherie for stuff to take home
> Dago’s Seafood because why not?

All good New iberia places there,
Better yet head to Abbeville which is not far from Avery. Go to Dupuys, Riverfront, or Shucks.
Dupuys for Tuna, Riverfront for grilled seafood, or shucks for oysters.

OG Deano's is the best in the area. Pizza Shack is good, but The Parrain and Marie Leveaux at Deano's...

I'm sure it's a great place, but why would anyone go to the heart of cajun country to eat sushi?

At the gift shop, try the Tabasco ice cream. It has to be tasted to truly understand how bad it is.

Get a haircut at Vice's while you are in town.
