Over the past few years, a good number of people I know who grew up in the New Orleans area have moved across the lake to towns on the Northshore (Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, etc.)

For those of you who live in New Orleans, is this a trend you have noticed?

Yeah. White flight happens in every major metropolitan area. Cheaper houses, less crime, better schools, smug superiority complexes. All that dumb shite that helps people sleep at night who've given up.

I'm 37 and this has been going on since I was a kid, so nothing new. Katrina gave it a kick in the arse though to accelerate it a bit for awhile after.

Funny, most of the people I know who move out there would love to live in Lake Shore, Lake Vista, Lakeview, Old Metairie or Uptown if they could afford to send their kids to private/Catholic schools AND buy a nice sized house.

Probably a good 15 years ago, at least.

That isn't new. People have been doing it when they start families for 65 years.

A large chunk of my peeps from Mandeville moved down here after college though
