Paris is pretty much heaven. The metro is a glorious transportation system and will get you anywhere you want to go. The city varies wildly and it's such a trip to emerge from underground in a different place each time.

i'm willing to bet that you acted like a jackass. My experience in Paris was 100% the opposite, the people were super friendly and helpful. Almost obnoxiously so.

The key is to make an effort to speak french, even if it's a bad effort. I bet you made no such attempt and went all ugly american around town. Thanks for giving us a shitty reputation

I didn't. I was a 12 year old kid who was lost in the city. I knew no more than 6 words of French, my mom didn't know much more. No one would help us until we found an Italian waiter to point us back in the right direction.

Paris is much nicer if you can speak French. However, many will still be a dick to you no matter what. The city is full of pretentious a-holes. Certainly, far from everyone is that way, but odds are most of the nicest people you will meet will be those not from Paris.

I must be the luckiest person on earth then.

LSUfan4444 or anyone with Paris knowledge. Would you reccommend staying around the Eiffel tower in a hotel? How far is that away from the other sites? (walking distance). What is inexpensive transportation from airport? What about cell phones (expensive for communication back to states). Did you use cabs to get around city? I know its alot im just ignorant on international travel. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

a) buy a guidebook
b) if you stay by tourist attractions you pay tourist prices for everything. and service is far worse
c) take the metro everywhere. The paris metro is fantastic and you can get anywhere in the city in minutes by using the metro and walking. I spent 10 days in paris and I never set foot in a cab.

none of this is true and i guarantee 90% of any issues you had was a problem with you, not them.

I forgot about this somehow. I had been sick the day we went to the British museum so we didn't stay long. I could spend days in there.

I spent a summer in London. Did a week in Rome and a week in Paris. All of them were great, but London was my favorite place to visit.

It's really about personal preference and what you are interested in. No one is "better" than the other.

I had no problem with Parisians being rude, fwiw.

Can't comment on Paris as I haven't been. I would suggest Rome over London if you have to narrow it down between those two. We used this Roman guide and he comes highly recommended. He has guided for several people from Shreveport-Bossier as well.

I've never been to Rome but I prefer Paris over London. As has been said, Napoleon's Tomb and the museum there is one of the most underrated attractions in Paris. I don't know that I would spend more than 3 or 4 days in any of them. But then, I don't like big cities all that much. Do a little research and find some fun things outside of the cities - or just go explore. Like here, rural folks are generally friendlier.

You can easily do Paris and London in the same trip.

I would also recommend not trying to cram everything in and go everywhere. Take it easy, go to fewer places & see more while you're there at a slower pace.

And if you eat in a restaurant allocate at least 2 hours. Meals are slow, you will be the only person at the table that night.

I've had trips to all three cities and all three are awesome detinations on their own.

For some reason though, if I were to go back to one of the three, I would say London. My wife would say Paris.

We started in France and finished in London. We took the Eurostar train. I would suggest doing it that way. Paris and London are night and day, and it was awesome to experience both in one trip.
