re: Paris vs London Vs Rome

Paris is the worst of the 3 outside of the food. London has the most food but the most fun stuff to do outside of just your basic history and landmarks tours. London has a huge theater scene, similar to Broadway in America so checking out some plays would be a fun activity. An Absolute must is a tour of the Tower of London. Also, get a Tube pass. Everything will be easily accessible via the London Underground (subway)

Paris hates tourists, Americans, nonparisian French, Parisian French, everyone. It's basically a city of snobs (think super hipsters without the flannel). Your most fun will be had by ignoring them. Visit the eiffel tower and the louve, have a romantic dinner at a fancy french restaurant and then go out for after dinner drinks at a small jazz club. Have sex in a hotel room with the eiffel tower out the window and you've had a clutch trip.

Rome is weird. It's dirtier than you expect, but it's also really awesome. The people are super nice and really just want to have a good time and get you having a good time. Of course, the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, and Coliseum are must sees, but don't sleep on the Pantheon. The area around the humongous dome (which was the largest in the world for over well over a millennium) is also filled with little restaurants, gelato shops, and fun places to go. The key with Rome is to take a nap in the middle of the day. The Romans wake up around 9:00 to a light breakfast, take a nap until the middle of the day, and sit down for dinner late, around 10:00pm. They then drink, dance, and party all night. Plan your day accordingly so you can enjoy this culture and you'll have a blast.

I would do Rome, Paris, London in that order while stopping at various awesome destinations along the way like Florence, Pisa, Venice, Monte Carlo, and Lyon. London should be last because there's so much to do there. You might want to give yourself extra time (if only to digest the delicious greesy English breakfasts) to explore outside of the city. Bath, Stonehenge, and Edinborough are all worth visiting. Catching an EPL soccer game at Whembly or in Manchester could be fun as well.

My dad gave me this picture when I elft for college that I still have framed in my house. It's a pic of Hitler standing at Napoleon's tomb after the Nazis invaded Paris. I always thought it as neat, but then to go stand in the exact same spot this picture was taken and where Hitler stood was one of the cooler things I have ever experienced.

i'm willing to bet that you acted like a jackass. My experience in Paris was 100% the opposite, the people were super friendly and helpful. Almost obnoxiously so.

The key is to make an effort to speak french, even if it's a bad effort. I bet you made no such attempt and went all ugly american around town. Thanks for giving us a shitty reputation

I agree, the French are not rude, but they are blasé, passive, and a bit standoffish toward tourist.

Like you said Ihave found that if you engage them and make an effort to speak their language, they are very friendly.


I only know English and Latin fluently, but every foreign country I go to, I familiarize myself with the basic language. It's very easy and doesn't take long (and it's kind of fun) and it makes your trip a million times better. I don't understand why people don't do that.

That was my brother. The ex war vet with an iPhone...captain "I'll figure it out"

We took the metro to the Louvre and we heard there was less of a line to buy tickets downstairs than upstairs. So, we were in the metro station curious as to where this ticket place might be.

He walked up the the metro window and in clean englosh said, "Is this where you buy tickets to the Louvre?"

she just nodded and said, "uh-huh".

Then he said, "great, well give me four" (for me, my wife and he and his wife"

She then proceeded to sell my brother four metro tickets to the metro station we were standing at.

They are all good in their own way. I liked London the best of the three. I'm more a fish and chips in a pub kind of guy than fancy meals. Plenty of history with Churchill's bunker, British Museum, Tower of London, trip out to Greenwich, St. Pauls, etc. I've always been into British humor and music and the people of London are easier to get along with than the Parisians or people of Rome. No language barrier either and it's a shorter and cheaper flight.

Vienna ask for the Hitler tour

I basically used mine as a camera, then when we got back to the apartment all my pics would go into my photo stream and transfer them to my computer.

I was pretty satisfied how easy wi-fi was to find then by using the magic jack app and facetime it was pretty easy to communicate back home when we wanted to.
