Not sure if this has been asked, but I'll ask in here.

Anybody have a good set of adjustable Dumbbells they recommend for P90X style workouts?

It seems there's a big discussion about Bowflex SelectTech (generally negative) vs PowerBlock vs IronMasters.

I've been looking around on CL, seems I can also find a decent set of hex Dumbbells for around the same price.

The PowerBlocks seem odd to me. I've never physically seen them or held them (gonna try to look around this weekend), but the appearance and caged handle thing bother me. IronMasters looks okay, but basically a set of replacement plates.

I'm considering investing some money here for a set, but have no idea what I want. I guess I'm leaning toward the hex set, but storage may be an issue. I already have some of the smaller weights (5-15) too. I've found I tend to avoid changing weight because it's cumbersome, so I shortcut myself a bit during a routine.

go powerblock. they look weird but are really comfortable. second pick would be hex dbs.

I have powerblock and recommend the u-90 starter kit. they can be upgraded all the way to 125 per. Only downsides to the pb's are its hard to do certain exercises like pullovers or over head extensions and they get long at the heavier weights.

do not go selecttech. Ironmasters are good but they are a pain to change the weights and in general are not as nice as the powerblocks.

I have some of the bowflex ones...they only go up to 20lb though making them damn near worthless. Changing them between exercises in a p90x3 video is a pain in the arse because it just takes a little bit having to adjust the dial on each side. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't take a long time, but too long when you're in a hurry I keep browsing CL looking for some cheap hex style dumbbells just so I can avoid dealing with the damn adjustable ones.

Mine say smart on them. They're okay, I guess.

I have two leads from CL, one on the PowerBlocks U-70 Stage 1 and stand for $250 and some used Hex dbs from 30-50lbs for $240 (10-50 for $320). Had another for the SelectTech for $50 (thinking some scam...but who scams dudes looking for Dumbbells).

It looks like Dick's carries the PowerBlocks, so I'll have to check them out (and maybe pick up a new set of golf clubs....). All the reviews rave about them, just so unusual looking. The PowerBlocks on CL only go up to 45lbs, but look to be expandable to 70. In normal P90X routines, 45lbs should be plenty. But good to know I could get up to 70 if I started other routines.

To close the loop, went to Dick's to check out the PowerBlocks and whatever else they carried. Was absolutely blown away by these "Core Fitness" Twist Lock Dumbbells, which should be equivalent to the StairMaster Dumbbells. Were on sale at Dick's for $399, so more expensive (and no CL/used options) but looked to be well worth it IMO. Very easy to adjust, goes up to 50 lbs, traditional look, and smaller weight=smaller dumbbell. I can select a new weight 10x in the time it took to select one on either the Bowflex or the PowerBlocks. Also very easy to discern the weight, just read the number in indicator.

Didn't pick them up today to research online prices. Couldn't find anything cheaper so will likely swing by tomorrow (and look for a coupon).

BTW, frick the iOS and the "link" button bug.

Started transition week yesterday with Isometrix. It went so much better than the last time I did it. Granted, some things I still couldn't get the whole 45 seconds (mainly the plank + arm and legs up) but I was constantly 35-40 seconds on the things I came up short on.

Dynamix this morning and it was really good. Again, some things I had problems with previously were much better and some things I modified previously I was doing with no modification this time. Feeling really good this morning and looking forward to donkey kicks tomorrow

started block 2 for the first time. Had eccentric upper today. Very tough. I was able to do most, but there were some I only got 7 or 8 reps on from just being too wiped. Can definitely feel it in my arms still though.

do you never plan to go higher than 50lbs? I hate for you to spend that kind of money only to realize later that they aren't heavy enough. If you ever plan on doing body beast i highly highly suggest you reconsider.

Pilates this morning. By the time the major ab work was done I thought the routine was half over....clock still read 23 minutes The breathing still screws with me something fierce, but it was kind of enjoyable this time around since my abs are much stronger than the last time I attempted pilates.

I did end up missing accelerator yesterday. I somehow managed to turn off my alarm in my sleep and didn't wake up early enough to get it in and then had a dentist appointment after work. By the time I was home it was almost 7 and bedtime is at 10ish. No way I was working out that close to sleep or I'd never actually fall asleep.

CVX this morning. I really didn't want to get up and do it but was feeling pretty good afterwords. arc press lunges are the devil in that routine and I don't even do the freakin skip/plyo bit, just stepping

How much weight are you using? I haven't done CVX in a while now. Challenge last night (8 & 16). Such a glorious pump from that routine.

I typically only use a 5, but it's time to up that to 7.5 I think. Even then by the time I get to the last burnout round I'm about ready to drop the weight when it's chair/crescent time.

Did Incinerator today for the first time. Loved the workout, really great, but I hate that I don't have a set of dumbbells. I feel like I could've had a hell of a workout with them, but all i have is a single 10 pound circular plate, and resistance bands. I did the modifier moves with my bands so that was alright. But man dummbells are just so expensive to purchase.

I did CVX with a 10...it's all I had. No basketballs or cats around for me to use.

I did Yoga this morning...I'm blitzing my body before the beach this weekend and needed a rest. So, MMX or Agility tonight then Eccentric Upper tomorrow morning.
