As a state actor this has some real free speech implications. I wonder if the kid will try to litigate this or just accept it and move on.

And there it is. The SJW mindset. Do you also force people that want accused murderers to receive a fair trial expressly state that they don't think murder is a good thing? Or do you just naturally think that they do? I've noticed that the anti-rape hysteria has this mindset too. Anyone daring to suggest that an accused rapist be treated fairly is de facto assumed to support rape. It's so trite and lazy.

This happened during an official campus organization (a fraternity) event...university policy and code of conduct...broken code of conduct that leaves a black on the university...expulsion.

What do you want them publicly flogged? People get less severe punishment for physical acts of violence. Expulsion is ridiculous for these asshats. Being a douchebag doesn't warrant or justify expulsion.
