I was in Tuscaloosa a couple weeks before for A Day when a big tornado came through (obviously smaller than this one) and it passed about a half-mile away from the apartment I was in. It's a pretty crazy sight to see.

I was in that tornado. It crossed a half mile ahead from me. I turned down a road trying to make it to my mom's house. Trees were crashing all around. Totaled my truck, but definitely an awesome experience.

A dozen or more hurricanes including Betsy & Camille. Katrina was almost a carbon copy of Betsy, fwiw. Also some pretty serious wildfires out here in CO: Hayman, Waldo Canyon & Black Forest.

That particular day and tornado outbreak was scary as shite. There were what seems like tornadoes everywhere. Town after town was just getting scrubbed off the face of the earth.

I turned down Crabtree Rd. in Tuscaloosa trying to make it to my mom. In the process, I turned down a road with an F-3 tornado crossing and ended up having a tree crash and stop me. I thank the Lord because the road was covered in trees and had I kept going, one could have crushed the truck. The one that got me took out the windshield and totaled the truck, but I could still drive it. I had to be cut out by firefighters because the road was blocked and covered with branches and trees.

Video of said tornado from 33/40 Towercam

Was supposed to be visiting family in NC during Hurricane Floyd, but decided to cancel (good decision), just got a ton of rain in DC. April '11 tornado outbreak scared the shite out of me. Have a friend who was injured when the Lowe's in Sanford was destroyed. On that note, frick tornadoes, causes me cardiac problems in the summertime.

I lived through the big earth quake that hit Northridge California back in '93 or '94. I was living in Covina, which was about 30 miles away or so, but I sure felt it. It knocked a fan off the wall and it landed on my head. It could have been much, much worse.

At least you have warnings and time to prepare for hurricanes. It's always a chance to evacuate.
Tornados come out of nowhere and by the time you get the TV warning it's too late.

yeah the really bad part of tornadoes is a lot of the time there is at best only a few minutes warning before they hit. And their destructive power is just incredible. A big one will literally leave a trail where even the grass is gone, leaving nothing but bare dirt. And they can also do things like this....

Tornado pretty much destroyed my neighborhood when I was a teen. I think tornadoes are the worst kind of natural disaster since they are unpredictable.

Floods, been in a couple but nothing more than carpet damage.

Earthquake. The worst was a 7.9 that ripped the earth for over 100 miles (Denali Quake) It didn't do a lot of damage though because of the relatively sparsely populated region. Water rippled in Louisiana from that quake, which shows how powerful it was.
