Sorry for the hijack but does anyone here do toes to bar as part of their ab routine? I ask because I know this is a popular exercise in crossfit circles. I have been doing a hundred after every other workout the past week or two. I start out with a set of 20 then 8 sets of ten. Tough exercise when you first try them but the get much easier with practice. I know crossfit people kip when doing these but I try to concentrate on not swinging and focus on a slow descent.

I do hanging leg raises and they blow torch the shite outta my abdominal wall. No "toes to bar" though. I might try that next time just to see

As long as they are relatively new. I love laughing at idiots, cross fit or otherwise. But then again I'm not a bitter old fart.

I know some people think its a cult but this 41 year old thinks that cross fit is far and away the very best workout you can get and will serve you well until the day you die. Standard weight training philosophy as promoted throughout the last 40 years was designed by people like Arnold who were consuming massive amounts of steroids. The body was not designed to exercise while seated or lying down and isolation exercises are completely counter intuitive to the human anatomy.

lol, what kind of bro science bullshite is this?

Great article on the History of Bodybuilding. Pay close attention to the 1970's to present. LINK

If you consider linking them together vs starting from a dead-hang as kipping, then someone is an idiot here.

Linking them together keeps your core engaged and is much tougher than doing non-linked singles.

Switching to sumo deadlifts did wonders for my back. I'd recommend trying that before abandoning deadlifts altogether.

As for routine, you've done 5x5 long enough. I'd switch to an intermediate routine like West Side or Texas Method before advancing to 5/3/1 at a later date.

You really think your boy Rich Fronin isn't on the gas?

Or how do you explain the fact that most injuries from lifting currently are coming from crossfit?

Here's the problem with crossfit: it's a single program that is designed for everyone to do, but people aren't built the same way. Most lack either the flexibility, strength, technique or all of the above to perform crossfit movements over and over correctly. The best at crossfit have a huge base in either powerlifting, Olympic lifting or both. They didn't start by doing crossfit.

The powerlifting and olympic lifting you shite on has been a staple for 40 years because it works.

Crossfit is great. And if that's your thing, more power to you .... but the idiots i see failing at double unders and muscle ups over and over make me want to puke.

At least have some idea of technique before you go in there and rip your shoulders to shreds. Olympic lifting wasn't designed for AMRAPS.

My last food for thought: being good at crossfit means lifting average weight a lot. Congrats. Who gives a frick you can bench 185 for a minute straight. Have a cookie, weakling.

A few of our stronger guys in the gym deadlifted 500x3.

The event was achieve a max 3 rep DL in an allotted time. Both crushed it.

He may be. Don't really care. Bodybuilding and the Weider principles which dominate weight training today were developed for and by people who are on steroids for the explicit purpose of hypertrophy.

Link? You can hurt yourself doing anything if you are stupid and move too fast.

So they shouldn't learn? Stick with concentration curls and tricep kickbacks? Crossfit is a hodgepodge of many different forms of exercise, hence the term "cross". Derp. Anymore genius observations.

Powerlifting and olymic lifting are effective but 99% of people who go to a gym don't do those things. They "body build" and that shite is a waste of time. Also, PL and OL require coaching which most people do not or cannot afford. Crossfit offers at least some basic coaching and access to experienced lifters.

Idiots are everywhere. Are you suggesting there are none at the Globogym? See the gifs I posted above. Idiots are everywhere.

Again, how is this different from PL or OL at a globo gym. At least at cross fit you can get coaching without spending $1000 per month on personal training. What alternative does a beginner really have? Olympic lifting was designed to give you the ability to lift a load as easily as possible. How many reps you should do is dependent on the weight and if you are sacrificing form you should drop weight.

Every cross fit gym I have visited has a strength component of the workout where you typically try and find a 1,2 o 3 rep max of a major lift.

The reality of the situation is that any experienced cross fitter can come in and hang with powerlifters and olympic lifters. If a powerflifter came to a cross fit gym they would lose their lunch 5 min into a WOD and tap out like a bitch. And they all know it...that is the reason for all the hate obviously.
