Assuming your hiring for an "extra" seat on the bench, that may have the potential to move into the starting lineup very quickly, would you be inclined to adjust your schedule to be available for after hours (7 p.m. or later) to conduct an interview?

Or would you expect the applicant to make schedule changes on their end to be interviewed during "normal" business hours, give or take 30 minutes to 1 hour?

I'd be willing to meet with someone after hours under the right circumstances, or if I'd planned on being in the office late anyway. I'd obviously prefer to handle it during regular business hours, but for the right candidate, depending on their situation, I'd be reasonably flexible.

I've done both, I have also interviewed after hours because the hiring manager had a schedule conflict. When I was doing the hiring it had to be a candidate that had impressive credentials -

I'm of the opinion that if he had a stellar background, he could command this of me. Unfortunately, he does not. I'm really not sure how he made it past our internal recruiter, other than the fact he has a quota he has to fill.

If I were the applicant, I would accommodate the hiring official.

It probably depends on how interested in you they are.

If they said they couldn't leave work for this because of XYZ reason...sure. I'd interview them after

I just had a company offer to interview me on Christmas Eve which I found surprising.

This may tell you something about the company's culture.

I would fricking LOVE IT if someone told me they had to meet me at night or on a weekend because someone didn't want to take time off of their current job, it shows they take their job seriously.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case. It is in a different state and I have to travel to interview so that's the main reason they are being so accomodating I think. That and it seems this in person interview will seal it. Scheduled for Dec. 23. Hoping Santa brings me a job this year.

If he doesn't command this of your time tell you got some steaks to grill on your new outdoor kitchen.

I went on a interview fresh out of college to Houston from a head hunter and I was like wtf? did you even read my resume or my cover letter - taught me a valuable lesson ask more questions but I was a naïve 26 y/o - I learned that these recruiters only care about themselves.
Good luck WC.

Good way to look at it. From my perspective, our company's culture is not a positive one and employee moral is down in the toilet. Two years ago, I would have done everything to accommodate anyone for a job interview. Today, not so much.

On a more positive note, I'll be in Scottsdale in January. Staying at the Marriott. Drinks?

I've seen you mention this before. How are you still with them?

There is no bench. I hire only enough to get the job done. If someone isn't good enough to be a starter I'll replace them with someone who is.

I plan to lose at least 15% a year to promotions, and I like that. Attracts replacements easily. I don't want people just happy where they are in these positions.

It would really depend on how much potential I think the individual has...if it was someone that I knew from experience was a top performer, I would do whatever it took to get them there...

however, I know that even folks with a stellar resume are hit and miss at best, I wouldn't go out of my way too much for someone that I really didn't know...
