Food in general just gives me the loose runs. Usually 1-3 episodes daily regardless of what I eat.

I thought the g to kg of body weight sounded better. So then it's a little over 100g of protein per day plus what I'm getting from meals (Turkey sandwich, chicken, etc.)

I had heard your body can only process 40g of protein at one time, but recently I heard it was more like 25g. What is the maximum amount of protein your body can absorb and how often should you take that dose?

False and False

The body isn't a gate marshall that accepts a certain number and then cuts off.

Shoot for 1g/LB a day no matter how many meals you eat or how much you're ingesting at a time.

Ummm...that sounds like you need to make some sort of appointment. That's not normal.

I feel it takes my muscles too long to recover if I'm not drinking protein. Could be mental though.

It is mental. The body will break down muscle in other place to get amino acids build the muscles that you just worked out if you don't get enough protein. You increase your protein intake so that there is plenty of amino acids availble so that doesn't happen. If you do more than 1g/lb of body weight you are just creating really expensive shite.

As a hypothetical, what would happen in your body if a say 200 pound person was intaking like 450g of protein a day? Assuming they are working out and not just eating a shite ton of junk food. So they are eating a relatively good/normal diet, they're just taking in a frick ton of protein, like a double scoop protein shake every hour. What would the body do with all that protein?

Actually it is. The intestines can only absorb so much protein in a given time. Proteins usually can't cross cell membranes so they have to go through transporters and transporters have a saturation point. Increasing the concentration until you reach the saturation point will make it be absorbed faster, but once the saturation point is reached the rate stays the same. The intesitens will continue to empty. So if you try to drink 200g in one shake or a meal you will just shite it out. It is best to space it out over the day. Drink a shake after a workout and then get the rest in your meals throughout the day.

If the body is in a surplus as a whole (+calories, protein, fat, carbs) the body will use what it needs for energy and will store the rest. There's a point of optimum growth in an anabolic state aka eating a ton of food won't magically put on more muscle during a 24 hour time period.

It just takes a longer time to digest. Amino acids will still be released but for a longer time period.

I've been taking a smaller serving of whey mixed with a greens supplement about 30 min before working out, then drink a serving of whey within 30 min of the workout. Read benefits of protein pre and post workout, so thought I'd hit up both. About an hour and a half between shakes. Am I wasting my money?

I'm no gym rat. Just starting to workout and trying to make the most out of my gym time.

If you're mainly focused on losing weight, I wouldn't really concern yourself so much right now with how many grams of protein you're getting. You should probably be more focused on your actual diet and exercise at this stage.

Well, if you really wanna spend money they say to do pre-workout, intra workout, and then protein. Intra being amino acids you drink during your workout. I wouldn't drink whey protein before working out, but I'm not the most qualified.

you can never have too much protein

Au contrare.

I know a guy who was taking 300+ grams of protein a day and ruined a kidney. Had to have a kidney transplant. He was even drinking the required shite ton of water per day and still had the kidney problem.

Just saying, there are upper limits.

Think I'm going to stick with 25 g in the morning, at lunch, and after lifting. I get the rest in food. Thanks for the tips.

Maybe it was the protein, maybe he just had shitty kidneys. No reason the rest of us shouldn't be free-basing as much whey as we can. Gots to get swolt bra.
