From council woman Teri Casso regarding flow rates:

"130k gallons per minute per pump
Cut will give us 300k"

The council woman also said there are 15 billion gallons of water needed to drain out of Spanish lake. With 3 pumps @130k GPM each and cutting the road for 300k GPM, it will take 15 days to drain the lake.

Hopefully she's being more cautious about what she says after her "the road failed" dubacle. After that I have a hard time putting any stock in her words on this particular crisis.

ETA: luckily, we don't need to drain the lake. We just need to suck it down off everyone's houses.

I'm still staying at family members houses since Monday. I was hoping going back to spanish lakes subdivision would be better today but the water is still rising more everyday. Everybody is still parking on the side of hwy 30 and we do t know how long jt will be until the water from the drainage goes back down for everybody to go back inside their houses.

New Projection with more data:

Manchac will be 2 ft lower than the swamp on Friday morning. Proving to be quite a linear trend:

It's gonna be a while before you notice it going down.

Manchac is finally below 13' and dropping hard. They'll be able to make a call on cutting the road shortly.

I'm still not crazy about the idea, but if they do it you'll see some more rapid relief.

Why not? What's a viable alternative?

I still don't fully understand why they can't open the locks.

ETA: it won't flow as well as cutting the road, but it seems far less risky to me, assuming the lock structure can handle the flowrate.

I don't understand either. I saw they began yesterday with the pumps.

not sure if her statement is correct. I have a cut sheet on a (one) 42" pump and the max capacity is 64,000 GPM. Im not sure how many pumps they have set up and running, but 130k gpm is impossible for one pump.

Not much she has said during this situation has been correct

No she hasn't.

Hopefully she's fact checking a little harder before spreading misinformation now. I've never met the woman and I'm sure she means well and is very concerned about everyone's well being, but she's missed the mark a few times and spread some serious panic early on.
