I don't think the gauge near Spanish Lake is based on sea level, but I see your point. It still wouldn't hurt to have a hydrologist make the decision instead of Kenny and his brother-in-law T-Bob and his backhoe.
I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people involved that are making that decision.

I'm sure they didn't consult anybody with any knowledge of drainage before they decided to cut out the road.

We've probably crossed paths numerous times over the last few days. Helped sandbag that house and man the pumps one night. Your buddy is a great neighbor.

Just left AB road and they are pumping. Didn't have time to talk to the CM that was there for B&R because his phone was blowing up with calls. Hopefully you guys on the Ridge start seeing some progress.

Why do a lot of people build in a flood zone? There's only so much land. We love it on the low side. Large lots, great scenery, quick access to BR and New Orelans. I could go on and on about the positives of living where we live. Every house on that side of the road right there was built at least one foot above BFE. I'm pretty sure it's been 15 or so years since it came all the way to the road as well. And the last time it got this high they were keeping the water at a much higher level than is maintained now. So it took less rain to get it this high. Rather unprecedented for the Bluff Swamp (unless you want to count the MS River busting through here in 1927).

you must be in that one with the 4 large white columns, right? have a trailer on the other side of you?
when i went down bluff earlier today those two houses looked like they were gonna be alright... shared a perimeter of sandbags....

Yep. I'm about 10-12 inches higher than your buddy and my other neighbor. Believe they changed the BFE sometime between when they built and we did. All I remember is that we went 1.5' above BFE. Want to say we're sitting at 12.5' (that's what I instructed my builder to do...maybe a little higher as I seem to recall the pad being close to 12.5' before they poured the foundation...lucky on my part).

i get that and all, and i have the same amenities as you, but i don't understand building inside a lake.... next to, adjacent, etc, i can understand, but INSIDE, that's where i fail to comprehend...
but i'm very happy for you that you like where you live, and i'm hoping like hell you guys make out alright....

All good. I thought out what I was doing before building in the swamp. Pros outweighed the cons. I can live with the consequences. Pretty certain I won't have this issue again for a long time. Only had a foot of water in my backyard during the March flooding. About 8 times that now. I'm a numbers guy. I like my chances. Stop by and say hello sometime.

Are they starting to cut tonight? I may have missed it. Hearing talk of them starting to cut the levee tonight.

Doesn't it start tomorrow?
Posted on 8/21/16 at 5:59 pm to LSUaFOOL
I don't think so. They're still setting up pumps.

Matassa hasn't heard of erosion?
Yes he has but he is convinced he can offer the road and water "loans" in exchange for doing as he asks.

Has it been discussed if Bluff Road is open yet all the way from Perkins to 74?
Posted on 8/21/16 at 6:35 pm to pwejr88
Projection for manchac levels. Wednesday at 11 am, manchac should be 2 ft below the swamp level and will start draining.
Posted on 8/21/16 at 7:00 pm to Gsatterw
So does that mean it's still closed?
