I can relate because I remember the market tanked when I went to law school and it hasn't recovered much for attorneys.

I pray and hope the best for anyone who is scared about being able to support themselves or their families. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Meh, I don't think so.

I mean, I'm sure there was some bloat due to regular, routine expansion, but this more due to an extremely rapid contraction.

Less drilling, less demand, etc.

Just an outsider's business take, you could be spot on.

The Saudis won't manipulate the market to jack up prices until they are satisfied they are the top producer in the world and the US gives in to them

I've heard that all jobs existing platforms would be ok, but all new drilling would likely be laid off.

The knowledge the OT "heard" is always powerful.

Offshore projects aren't affected nearly as much as onshore, because they're way bigger ticket and longer term projects. Think about all the workers that cover the DJ Basin, Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, Marcellus, Utica, Bakken, etc. All the independents that operate in those fields are laying off tons of people.

You're anti American

Selfishness is a pretty American virtue, and I agree with him. Cheaper gas affects my family. I hope that the people affected by layoffs properly considered Rick/Reward ratios and saved their money for a rainy day. There was enough historical data to show that this day was coming.

What a nice thing to say. It's a rarity on the OT to read people saying nice things. My company has cut hours instead of laying people off. Of course with oil worker's "African American Rich" spending habits, they're still hurting.

With what you save on ice, it pays for itself.

how much better is your life that you're saving $15-$30 a week?

You must be really really poor if saving $30 a week is worth thousands of people losing their jobs.

If they are hiring you at this position that seems to be the case. This is a good sign. Good luck at your new gig.

I work for an OSV company. This does not seem to be the case. OSV companies are taking massive cuts in rates.
