As one poster said, avoid food made in China. If the word "corn" or "byproduct" is in the ingredient list, the food is subpar. Look for the first 5 ingredients to be heavily protein based. "Deboned chicken" or "deboned" any meat is fine. Also, meals are fine. "chicken meal" is basically chicken meat with the water volume removed. Grain free or with grain is up to your dog's stomach.

Orijen, Acana, Taste of the Wild, Fromm, Nutro, Blue Buffalo, and wellness are all ideal but if you stick to the basic stuff above, you'll be good.

If you care about your dog's nutrition, I recommend you avoid Purina, beneful, Eukanuba, Iams, science diet, etc.

I'm considering switching to Victor. Any good or bad results from Victor on the O-T

Victor is the best I have found. Science diet is popular because of the $$ they donate to Vet Schools and the prescription diets. I fed Science Diet until I switched to Victor and they look better (shiny coat) and eat it better. Less poop as well.

For anyone interested on reviews for their dog food, this is a helpful site I came across.

Blue Buffalo Wilderness, different flavors for variety. It's grain free and high protein and seems to help with controlling the dog's weight. All my dog has ever eaten has been dry dog food which I firmly believe is healthier for him than the wet stuff. He's eleven years old and healthy as a horse.

raw chicken and vegetable glop

We add chicken, vegetables, and other human food to rice that we buy in bulk at a warehouse store and cook in a Chinese rice cooker. The rice helps to fill up the dogs, and is inexpensive and consistent (unlike, say, bulk potatoes).

Just remember, dry dog food is made for human convenience, not for dog health.

Don't get me wrong, I'm O-T poor so I feed my dog dry dog food, but we also give her apple, carrot, pear, etc.

Dogs would be better off on a raw meat, vegetable, and fruit diet.

Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice gets 4 stars on there and only costs about $45 bucks for a 40lb bag.

Two vets in the family plus two other vet friends told me to feed mine Eukanuba. Guess they hate me. Or my dog.

Thanks for the information.

I have high energy dog (blue heeler), and while she may not be a working dog, I'm still pretty active with her.

She'll be 2 this month, and I've never experienced any issues with the food.

Used to be pretty good. They've gotten too big to adhere to the standards they set out with.

Iams Lamb and Rice for the house dog.

Purina Dog Chow for the outside hounds. They are rescue mutts and don't rank high enough for the expensive stuff.

All are in excellent health though.
