Props to this American hero

Wish this kid could've lived, he obviously had a great head on his shoulders even at only 8 years old.

awesome kid, but sounded like he had a shitty family.

Plus nine kids in a single wide that had no fire detectors.

If everyone reading this now would all just go check you detectors or add them if you are lacking, you would be a little safer.

Tara DiMartino, a neighbor and family friend, said Beach's granddaughter, Connie, was one of the people in the home who was able to escape the fire. She, her boyfriend and their three children had been staying in the trailer temporarily while they "got back on their feet."

I'm making a big leap of assumption here, but I'm guessing those are 2 relatively young and healthy adults he woke up and got out of there. I've never been in a situation like that, but I have to believe I wouldn't just head out to safety while a 3rd grader continued to help people in the house I was staying in.

I picked up on that too. That's why I'm in such awe. This little boys natural reaction was to save his family, no matter what. Can you imagine the calm and focus that an adult would have to have to keep it together while a trailer is ablaze?

Now imagine how much harder that would be for an 8 year old.

I thought the same thing. You make sure your kids are safe, then you go in and get everyone else out. Everyone could have lived if this dude was worth a shite.

This is sad.

But for an adult, I don't know how you die in a fire in such a small building. Throw a blanket over you and do your best Refrigerator Perry impression running through the walls.

You're probably more likely to die in a small building than a large one.

Well, one of the adults was missing part of a leg, so there's that. Also, small buildings burn very quickly, and if this kid hadn't woken everyone up several more probably would have died in their sleep due to lack of oxygen, smoke, etc.

Because it's pitch black, and if you take one lungful of that smoke you drop immediately and it's lights out.

I work in healthcare advertising and used to work on a product that's used for people who have cyanide poisoning from smoke inhalation, which in combination with the carbon monoxide causes the majority of fire deaths.

I've heard stories where people are pulled from a fire, flat lined, and brought back to life with the product. People that would usually die. Only problem is, it's expensive (about $700).

What a great kid. Those who he saved better make it worth it and do something good with their lives. Not saying they wouldn't have otherwise.
