I've been saying if for years, those pipes and streets were shite before Katrina. The city used Katrina as an excuse to bilk the Feds into forking over billions in unrelated storm damage. This was and is a multi-billion dollar way to fleece billions from FEMA.

Crumbling city is crumbling city.

Will be interesting if FEMA gets the American people's money back.

NOLA: was already decrepit, Katrina didn't do the pipe damage

I really hope neither a newspaper, auditor or govt. agency said this.

Also, you seem to have a real hard-on for New Orleans, but I wonder if you realize that without New Orleans...Covington is still mostly nothing but a pine-treed forest.

It's amazing how the surrounding parishes seem to thrive with lower taxes and more government services.

If that money was truly ear marked for infrastructure, then I say let them keep it. New Orleans is a classic American city, and should be protected.

Lol, did Mr Auditor drive thru Lakeview? The flooding absolutely damaged the streets.

I was born in New Orleans, raised in Metry, and the city pisses me off sometimes as well.. But like Uncle Eddy Edwards said, "without New Orleans, Louisiana would be, Mississippi."

Yep, the infrastructure was shite before the storm, just like the Ninth Ward...

They were shite before, but having flood water sit over the pipes for many days is a lot of pressure. The pipes were busting much more frequently after the storm than before. The storm definitely made things worse.

Poors who can't afford to live in NOLA have always provided a good chuckle.

But we know, you enjoy chain restaurants and a 40 minute commute to everything!

Hardly; it's better than it's ever been in my lifetime.

Thanks for the FEMA money...

If pipes were crap but the storm damaged them even more, what's the problem? Every fricking city does this.

I Would prefer the US spend their resources getting money back from bailouts that ended up turning into bonuses for executives

Zero percent chance this happens when a sliver of the district is sitting in the House Majority Whip's district. NOLA will get the full $2 billion.
