Anybody ever buy this thing? It's like a few hundred bucks but I've never heard of it. You basically pre-pay your entrance fee for museums, attractions etc in NYC.

It's a good deal if you plan on doing all the stuff. The problem is some of them are like:

Ellis Island
Empire State Building
National Copper Museum
Statue of Liberty
Milard Filmore's Boyhood Home
Intrepid

I'm here now with friends who live here--

Water taxi all day pass for $32 a person. Stops at Wall Street, Brooklyn, takes you to Statue of Liberty--stops at four other places as well. Go to Katz deli from movie when Harry met Sally. Go places the tourists don't go and get a much better nyc trip.

Buy a subway pass and find free walking tours online. Saves tons of money and is a better experience overall.

I've never heard of the pass before, but looking at the list of attractions that's covered under it, doesn't seem to be all that bad of a deal. 9/11 memorial, museum of natural history, brooklyn bridge tour, carnegie hall, empire state building, etc.

If you know you want to go to all of those places, I'd probably just buy the pass to save you the hassle of waiting in line at each place waiting for tickets. Also, I'd probably buy an unlimited metrocard for the week, can use on buses or subways

These are actually almost all "donations" up there, meaning you pay what you can, but there is no set price for admission at the museums. I went a few years ago to the Museum of Natural History, and the couple in front of us paid $10 for the two of them, because thats what they chose to pay haha I still had my LSU ID on me, so I paid the $17 student recommended price. Its actually nice to have that flexibility, but it also makes the Pass unnecessary, if you plan on mostly using it for the museums.

ETA: Also, the advice I got when heading there... go to The Top of the Rock instead of Empire State Building, same view but less wait/crowded. Take the Staten Island Ferry instead of the Statue of Liberty tour. The ferry goes right by the statue, doesnt leave you there for hours like the tour, and its free.

I was there for four days while my wife had a conference for three. We got the buss tour pass for like 3 days. The one we got came with like 4 passes per person to attractions like museums and such. It had stops all over Manhattan. I think it was $150 per person. I basically used the busses as my transportation around the city and got into the museums when we felt like visiting one (and they are like $25 a pop without the pass). Worked out pretty well. I spent a lot of time just doing a walking tour. I'd look up an area, get on the bus line that would drop me off there. Listen to their facts and stuff on the way. Then walk around and explore while my wife was at her conference. Ultimately got to see everything I had time (not including a Broadway show) for that trip and we paid a total of $300.

I think it was the Grey Line. They sold it in our hotel lobby. It may have been a package for the hotel that included the attractions or something, but it's not like anyone couldn't walk into the hotel lobby and buy it at that desk. They have kiosks everywhere around Times Square.

I bought one when I went one time because I wanted to do all of the touristy stuff. It ended up saving me some money.
