the bridge is in desperate need of areas where vehicles can pull over, as well as improved safety rails along the southbound span.

proposed improvements include improved railing and safety bays for vehicles to move off to the side during accidents.

After watching the videos of the cars going over the rails on the news last night, I think this is a long overdue proposal. The bridge needs to be safer.

Take a look at their audited financials. All of the info you seek is in there.

My dealings with Causeway Police have left me very unimpressed.

Let STPSO or JPSO take over. It would be a huge upgrade

Who is going to pay for this? Do you think those departments have officers who are going unused?

The improvements need to be made. That bridge for the most part hasn't been touched in 40 years.

From looking at financials they have, it seems they could pay for a part of this with cash, part of this with current toll revenue, and part of this with new toll revenue.

I'd like to see some breakdowns on those buckets.

But it appears some new money is needed and I'd rather it be tolls then general fund revenue.

Obviously, the budget saved from eliminating an entire police department that exists for a single purpose would be far better served by integrating new officers into existing departments.

The bridge may be even better patrolled.

This will never happen, though. No one can undo a Louisiana fiefdom.

I don't agree with this.

The bridge is inspected frequently and undergone quite a few repairs and upgrades over the years.

I thought quite a bit of work was done after Katrina?

I would agree to a temporary increase but not a permanent one for sure.

LoL. That ain't how government works. Once they get something it never goes away.
