That thing has been a massive disappointment for the US aviation industry.

I think that's a little of an overstatement, and too early to tell, the DC-10 was pretty bad at first then went on to be a fine airplane, same with the MD-11, it was so bad when we first got it all of the mechanics called it the scud, it went on to be a good one, I do know that airlines are disappointed because the Feds didn't grant them a common type with the 777, but they always bitch over pennies while dollars are flying out of the window

what kind of question is that?
if its got wings I can fly it, just show me the jet!

BTW: it's very similar to the triple 7 from an operational standpoint, even though we have 787 sims, the 777 sim can be converted to a 787 by the push of a few buttons

Awesome... until you realize its probably on a 1/4 tank of fuel with no passengers or luggage that would prevent this maneuver. Meh.

Also a little research shows that the takeoff angle is actually around 60 degrees, pretty steep compared to a normal takeoff but calling it near vertical is a strech, the camera work makes the angle look more severe. They have been doing this maneuver in the 787-9 at European airshows since 2012.

but calling it near vertical is a strech,

why all the hate for the creamliner? it's a transport category airplane with a p/w better than a lot of fighters, it's an awesome airplane

Maybe the 787-8, the 900 didn't leave the ground until September 2013.

Appreciate the thoughtful reply. Perhaps the plane will be what we all thought it was once they finish working out the kinks.

It will become a fine platform to fly. Every new aircraft has kinks to resolve.

^This. No where near vertical. I was fooled at first also.

sixty degrees is a pretty good deck angle for a transport

That is very impressive for an airliner. I don't think the general public even fully realizes.

777 do you ever post over on C&R?

LOL. It does attract the crazies. I'll look at it every once in a while if I'm really bored but I've never posted there.
