yea turn it off, don't wait
happened to me one time, I got home to water literally shooting over my house into the backyard. That pressure is crazy.
Backyard was six inches deep in water.
I was shocked my bill wasn't too bad.

some areas you actually need a t-bar to turn the water off.
Pick one up at your nearest hardware store for about ten bucks. No home should be without one.

If nobody saw you out there just go inside and pretend you never saw it.

This is it.
I opened the water meter plate up and it was filled with water. Felt around in there and didn't feel any valves. I called the water company and they said they would try and contact the guy. They told me they don't normally do anything unless the homeowner calls them (bullshite). Said they'd send someone out here to see if it was a problem on their end.

If you didn't feel anything you may need a T bar.
Did you call your neighbor?
With them sending someone out they will prob shut it off.
Put out the guest towels.

Hmmm you live in Old Jefferson?

What you are looking for resembles a rectangular bar about 1/2 inch wide and 2 1/2 inches long on a round plate. That is the shut off valve. Use a crescent wrench and turn it to where it is no longer in line with the pipe. 90 degrees. So easy a 5th grader could do it.
The water company will charge the frick out of your neighbor for water used, so you would be doing him a huge favor by turning it off.

If the leak gets really bad though you will have to light his house on fire to counteract enough.

Be very careful. Those utility boxes can electrify for a pretty wide distance. Don't get electrocuted trying to be a real man.
