On January 5th 2015, NASA let out an image of the Andromeda galaxy, which is the closest galaxy to us. They captured the image using the NASA/ESA Hubble Telescope once again, but this time it’s taken to a whole new level. They took 411 images and put them together to create the largest image ever taken. It’s a whopping 1.5 billion pixels and requires about 4.3 GB of disk space!

The image takes you through over 100 million stars and travels more than 40,000 light years. It’s likely to make you feel like you are only a very, very small part of a universe that we begin to understand the true size of as each day passes.

I wonder what other minerals and radiations we dont know of are out that the could benefit this world.

If it's equal to the things that could ruin.

It's the distance that light travels in a year. Roughly 6 trillion miles. That's all there is to it.

it's pretty simple. its the distance light travels over a 365 day span. (nearly 6 trillion miles)

ETA: damn someone just posted this

It travels about 6 trillion miles in one year. What put it in perspective for me was reading that a beam of light circles the earth 7 times in one second

I really don't understand people's obsession with emphasizing my/their/our smallness in the universe. It doesn't change anything. I mean, anyway, the point has been beaten to death.

It's good brain food. Makes you think about the scale of distances that exist out there.

Of course there was once a point in man's history when the east coast to the west coast seems like an almost impossible venture. Now we can do it in a day. I hope we can continue to advance technologically to the point where future generations will see space travel the same way we now see crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Downshift don't we have those space planes now that can do that east coast to west coast trip in just hours?

The intended message is exactly opposite from your perception. I presume you're agnostic.

I remember hearing about those back in the late 90s. The plane goes up into the lower atmosphere and sits there waiting for the world to spin and drops back down. Novel concept

well if we could travel at the speed of light, then all we would have to do is live to be 40,000 years old to see some of there places

I wonder what one would look like 40,000 years old?

I wonder how many skin tucks it would take if we could reach that age?

Burning questions
