and re: spying, it isn't really spying. it's not the kid's phone.

My god.

If I was your son and found out about this you'd be fricked.

1. I would never give you any information about me ever again.

2. I would not tell you that I know about it. I'd troll your fricking life. I'd send random txt's to friends like "You got the shite?" and have them respond with a pic of some frickin black tar heroin and a needle. Then I'd be like " be over in 30 min". Then I'd go tell ya'll I was going to study with said friend and leave the house.

You'd have a frickin stroke over the shite I'd put you through

Botttom line, you better be heavily involved in who and what your kids are doing. Letting the public raise them and influence them won't work but if you think that's the fair thing to do....have fun.

Bottom line: you failed as a parent if you have to have a dinner time "phone check."

this is the problem.

i put the fear of God into my kids by telling them every website & text they send is logged by my router & showed them a couple of 'examples'.

a better policy would be something like what i do..i collect all their phones & ipads every night before they go to bed.

nothing good can come from your kids laying in bed at 2am texting/facetiming with 'friends'.

I have a gorgeous gf, two doctorates, and no kids.

Yeah, I'm so "mad"...

My point is you are giving the op faulty advice. I'm sorry if your opinion doesn't match up with the law or current trends in prosecution. Dint be angry at me and lash out with ad hominem attacks...Just accept the fact that you are wrong.

I don't disagree with that. If we are going to now assume that this lady is keeping and not deleting these photos, then she could be in violation of the statute you referenced.

It's an interesting scenario.

I'd have some girlfriend txt me saying she was pregnant. I'd have a big long fricked up convo with her over txt. All the while I'd be trying to do whatever you are most against, i.e abortion or keep it.

Then I'd act sketchy as hell around ya'll IRL

i have a 6 yo, 13yo and a 16yo.

all 3 in different schools.

if my 13 and 16yo didn't have phones we'd never keep everything straight.

Your wife is psycho. If you don't trust your kid with a phone don't give him one.

Trust but verify.

And like I said before, let your kid know up front that you will be verifying that trust whenever you feel like it.

That's more appropriate. Use parental restrictions on his device...but spying without his knowledge just doesn't seem right.
