Can you refuse to pay at that point on the basis you may not have cash on you? What a fricking scam, too bad the politicians never change.....public service my arse....whatever they can do that serves them the best is what happens.

He's honestly lucky to be alive, based on the safety concerns that have rightly been raised by our friends with the taxi unions.

The problem with UBER in NOLA is there are never any cars available.

Pretty sure they don't allow it in Nola.

I tried to call United last night from the lower quarter, but I could never get through to an operator.

I requested a car on uber, and it was there in three minutes.

That is why uber is so much better. It efficiently connects cabs with fares.

Did y'all see this in Business Report a few days ago?

Yellow Cab to debut new credit card app next week

Yellow Cab is preparing to roll out a new version of its mobile app that will encrypt and store passengers’ credit card information, thus enabling them to pay fares directly from their phones or mobile devices.

The craziest thing, those cab credit card machines must have been manufactured by the same people who made the McDonalds shake machines, because they're always broken.

I tried Lyft in Memphis this past weekend and get this...no surge pricing to drop off or pick up at fedex forum for the grizzlies game!

I posted this before, but I did 2 Ubers and 1 Lyft in Houston to and from the LSU-Wisconsin game and never paid a single dollar due to promo codes.

Even without the codes, the most expensive ride would have been $14 and that's from downtown to Reliant.

There was a thread asking McDonalds workers what the deal is with this on Reddit this week.

Tried Uber in Austin and it never took longer than 5 minutes to get picked up by 2 cars...we had like 9 people with us.

Did you Uber after the game ?

I got 10x surge pricing after the game so we went back to the tailgate spot. However they run you out of there after awhile so we needed to GTF. Tried again and surge was still on. Would have cost us $400 to get to the Heights. Ended up taking the lightrail to downtown then took a short Uber from there. However I don't blame Uber totally for this. Houston is good at making events like this a clusterfrick.

that's actually pretty good. nothing like a little competition to get the cab companies into the 21st century. Would be awesome if BR could support lyft as well.

I support you, but Uber won the war like 18 months ago, this stuff isn't even necessary

Uber was terrible when I was in New York City. Every time I was ready to request a car I would get 3.2 X times normal fare rate or 4.5 X times normal fare rate. They always jacked up the price to at least 2 times the normal rate. Just a total rip off. Cab was way cheaper and easier to flag down.

Taxis in NYC are almost certainly going to be cheaper than an uber. Uber can be convenient tho when you are having trouble finding a cab but you are going to pay for it.

Did Lyft.

Used a promo. Found Berg on the side of the road and picked him up So we all got to downtown for free.

I waited outside the stadium ~30 minutes with some friends who were driving, but I said screw it and went to the CVS right by the stadium and got picked up in 9 minutes.

The Lyft price, if I hadn't used the promo, was $14.

It is my understanding after reading posts on here that I got extremely lucky, and it was much more difficult for everyone else.

I take cabs to and from the airport at least once or twice a month…it's a pretty shitty experience every time.

I'm not shocked your cab was okay with allowing you to use the CC but it's no exaggeration when I say at least 60% of them tell me their machine is broken, then I don't phase, and 10 seconds later it magically works.

fricking crooks. as soon as UberX gets to NOLA and has enough cars on the road., they will dominate the market

I really hope UberX gets in NOLA. We really can use more options here with the growth that's going on. It will also be nice to see them fail at being a good option during events.

Cabs in NOLA can be terrible.

But the upside is that at least you are in NOLA.

Uber is not run by a bunch of dummies. They will eventually figure out a way around the surge pricing "issues".

I have a friend who is a driver, and he said it is actually a lot of fun. He only drives two nights a week, and only when he doesn't have plans. I have his driver promo code for first time riders if anyone wants. The rider gets a first ride fare credit, and he gets $5.
