my router log shows lots of "DOS attack: IP Spoof" events

just looked at the router log out of curiosity (yes, this is what I'm doing with my Saturday night), and it's showing a lot of these:

[DOS attack: IP Spoof] attack packets in last 20 sec from ip [192.168.1.7]

I don't know how that #7 is, because the only two things that used my router today should have been my computer (#1), and my iphone (#2). My router has a WPA2 password, but it's a really simple one (0307 ). The router setup thing shows only my computer and iphone right now.

I don't know anything about this stuff, so can anyone tell me if I should be worried? And if there's a malicious #7 on my router, does that mean there's a #s 3-6 on it as well?

Could be the iphone losing connection and reconnecting.

If you want to view a list of current ACTIVE leases then you'll find it under Maintenace / Active Devices or by going to http : // 192.168.1.1/DEV_device.htm

Possibly. But wouldn't it get on as #2 every time it reconnects? And would the router really interpret the reconnects as an ip spoof attack (whatever that is)?

And right now it only shows my computer and iphone (#1 and #2)

DOS attacks don't necessarily come from your own computer. It could be from an outsider trying to mess with your computer.

You may want to have it checked out, but you may not have anything to worry about. After all, routers are there for security purposes.

I am no expert, but you could limit the leases to 1 and 2 and see what happens.

There should be plenty of help online. google it, read what others have posted on it, usually this is how I resolve a lot of PC issues.

just when you guys had me feeling good about this, the first google result says:

quote:

The DoS Attacks, are Denial of Service pings from an outside source, possibly someone in your neighborhood--if you live in a single development house--or someone in the apartment building if you live in an apartment. Regardless, a Hacker none-the-less. Additionally it's possible one of your Laptops could have a Trojan, or Worm that is programmed to broadcast at random back to the source ip that is responsible for having planted it.

LINK

But what's different from my case is that the ip is coming from my own network, and the only two devices I have are my phone and computer. I'm starting to believe this #7 guy is a virus on my computer.

No one is trying to hack you. With such a simple password, a library attack on your wpa2 would have taken less than a millisecond once a handshake was established.
