I have never lived outside of Tejas. However, my firm asked around for a replacement for our, now retired, SE LA rep, and I put my name in the hat.

Considering my friends and some distant family not far away (Lafayette), I was chosen as the best candidate and accepted.

So let me have it natives.. where to live, etc.? Single, no kids.

What kind of budget?

eta: My initial recommendation is the Warehouse District. Where will you work?

Warehouse District if you can afford it.

My max for rent would be $2K probably. Not wanting to set down firm roots in a house just yet.

Needs to be in NOLA proper ideally so I can get to/from CBD with relative ease.

That's enough to put you in one of the nicer WHD places.

From the far end of the WHD (interstate) to the far end of the CBD (Canal) is about a 10 minute walk past tons of nice restaurants and bars.

I'd look in the warehouse district or the new south market district.

ETA: the south market district has a ton of new apartments and is right near the warehouse district, the Superdome, the SKC, and is part of the CBD.

ETAx2: if you wanted you could walk to work anywhere in the CBD from either the WHD or SMD.

I'm a firm believer that everyone should experience living in the Quarter for at least 1 year.

Especially while still being young and single.

After that, look Warehouse District or Uptown.

I'm in the same situation and have lived uptown for the past few years. I prefer having a yard and not having to take an elevator to my apt, pay for parking, etc. Whs district is fun but you'll get more bang for your buck renting uptown. I have a ten minute commute to the CBD. Just my two cents, I have a pretty even split of friends living uptown vs whs district, both are good for young single people

Warehouse district or uptown.

Anyone who tells you something else is an idiot.

I lived in the WHD 10-15 years ago and it was the tits. Walking distance to so much. Good restaurants, nightlife, coffee shops, etc.

Damn I miss those days.

I suggested the WD.

My point is that living in the Quarter is an experience that not may people have the chance to experience, and if you can you should just try if for a year, or even just 6 months......then check it off your bucket list and move.
