Never been out to Colorado before but I am pretty pumped. I'm big into the outdoors and really looking forward to the mountains.

Anyone out in Denver/lived there in the past and can make recommendations? I've been looking at Highlands, Uptown, and Cap Hill for neighborhoods to live in (1br apts). Ideally I can live very close to a grocery store and gym.

I've heard CO has duck hunting but it's a serious drive everywhere you want to go, no surprise.

I'll take any and all recommendations.

Someone told me that in order to hunt in Colorado you have to win a hunting lottery.

You're about to move to one of the best places in the country to live imo. Congrats. You'll probably never leave.

Congrats, Denver is badass. Can't tell you much about those neighborhoods aside that I've hung out in both and had a great time. I imagine they're both on the more expensive side for the city if that's a concern

Congrats. Wish I'd never left. Live on the Western side so you have easier access to the mountains. Start smoking weed.

I'm pretty excited. Several people have told me that you really have to get on the ground in order to find a place. My plan is to research the different neighborhoods, maybe schedule a few visits, and then just get a place the first few days I am there.

Haven't lived in Denver since 2000. But back then, Capitol Hill was meth, gays, and squatters.

I've got a cousin who lives in Lakewood. Seems to be a decent middle class area.

Do you know where you are going to be working? I highly recommend south of downtown i.e. Centennial or Cherry Creek.

honestly, you really need to know where you will be working before picking a place to live in Denver...I was there 15 years ago and the traffic was absolutely terrible...I would leave for work at 6 AM and it took 45 minutes to go a little over 9 miles to the office...

the traffic and cost of living coupled with me just not fitting into that culture very well really made me unhappy there...

flip side is that pretty much every aspect of the outdoors there is the absolute best...you can be standing in an icy stream fly fishing less than 45 minutes after you leave work. hunting and fishing is suprisingly accessible and flat enjoyable. the city has loads of bike paths to walk and ride bikes on. until I moved there, I really had no idea how much more comfortable a very dry climate is.

I have been gone too long to recommend places to live, but if you have any questions about things to do, just let me know.

Job was in Aurora so I lived in Aurora. You definitely need to live close to the job because big city traffic is big city traffic.

Driving NW to work in the morning with a perfect view of the morning sun hitting the Rockies never got old.

Outdoors yes, but it's a different outdoors.

I did more snow skiing in the winter than hunting but wasn't there long enough to get settled in on the hunting scene.

You can wear a t shirt when it's 55 degrees because of the humidity or some shite. Magic is my guess.

Hiked the shite out of the front range.

Have good friends who moved to Colorado for job transfer. They live in Highlands Ranch. They love it.

I moved here six months ago, and have loved it. But of course, note that I'm finally settled, my company is sending back to Louisiana to run a project for the next 6-8 months. So I'm gone in 6 months. Luckily, they'll fly me back once a month, so I'll still get to do some camping in the summer.

Too bad your not here sooner, I'm his sublet my apartment just west of Highlands in Edgewater/Wheat Ridge.

The only thing I can say is, I hope you've got sooner money saved up and a good job lined up. Rent is insanely expensive here. The neighborhoods you mentioned have been gentrified, so expect to spend no less than $1100 on a one bedroom.

Traffic sucks a huge pole. It's at least as bad a Atlanta, maybe worse. But the fast growth here means there will be infrastructure work for years, so it's a good place for me. And this place is a huge, sprawled out suburb. My car started having big problems on the move over here, and it made it very tough to get around, even with skidr public transportation.

If you like weed, it's pretty amazing setup. They advertise weed in the back of independent local magazines. You can buy an ounce here cheaper than a quarter bag in the south.

Just remember, this city ain't cheap. Be ready for the sticker shock on rent, and almost everything else, except weed and burritos.

A well Doreen breakfast burrito with hatch green Chile sauce is absurdly delicious. Colorado and New Mexico's Mexican food is way better than any texmex or Cali
