It's great. I don't think I'll ever leave the mountains either.

I've been once. It really is a great outdoor town, and it's also a college town. Yeah, there are some hippies, but I think you're going to get that anywhere out west. I was there around the end of June and it was beautiful.

Ever since my couple of Montana trips, I've been checking in periodically on their winter weather. It doesn't seem too bad all the time. Seems like they have periods of 30s and 40s and sun for a while, then it can get freezeyourdickoff cold for a couple weeks, then it gets back to tolerable again. Also I think Bozeman is in a bit of a rain shadow where it's somewhat drier than surrounding areas.

Me neither. I went back to La. a few years back and had to pretend clouds on the horizon were mountains. I'll never move away from the mountains again.

Great opportunity if you have a good job lined up. One of the best public school systems in the state(if you plan on staying). Housing can get expensive (friend said the house he is building cost close to $400/sq ft).
Just like anywhere you move you can find yourself in your old routines like drinking hard staying out all night. A lot of businesses cater to the progressive college atmosphere, but the core is pretty much made up with the silent conservatives. People are polite, but rarely will go out of their way to be friendly like Louisiana & Texas. Winters are more bearable than anywhere in the mid-west especially Chicago. It will be a lifestyle change, and like a whole bunch of people living there you will seek out ways to improve yourself outside of your job. There is a big part of the population besides students from outside of Montana (west coast/east coast implants) most do not last long & move back. Of my friends that are not from Montana, they say it takes about a year to get comfortable living here and most stay longer. My biggest pet peeve is dealing with the 3rd-4th generations plus who will constantly tell you how long their families have lived here when they disagree with you about anything.
I have traveled all over Montana, Wyoming, Northern Colorado & Western halves of the Dakota Brothers for my job. The only place I have experienced road closures (besides road construction in Summer) is in Wyoming during the winter. There are plenty of outdoor activities like many have posted, and plenty of day trips from Bozeman. You will eventually think nothing about making a 300 plus round trip in a day, because most everyone does it or have to make that trip (just part of living in a part of the country with allot of land and very few people). Good Luck!

I realize I am late to this thread, but my cousins moved out there after Katrina.

Bozeman is an incredible place if you like skiing, hiking, 4 wheeling, mountain bike riding, etc.

Less than 10 minutes outside of Bozeman is Bridger Bowl, a great local ski resort. Less than an hour and a half away is Big Sky, one of the best ski resorts in the country. Montana never has any lines at the ski lifts.

If museums are more your thing, Museum of the Rockies is a nice little museum.

I have been travelling to Bozeman once or twice a year since 2006. I love it.

Same here. You've pretty much gotta be here 20 years to be considered local.

People are less superficial, less phony. They may seem less friendly at first, but people like their space. They'll still rally around a cause. Most Western towns or cities fit the same mold.

Thats pretty much how I am with people here. When I was a kid Scottsdale was TINY and it was like a little desert town on the very outskirts of Phoenix! You could get land for $1000 an acre, now it would cost 500x that! I like people so I am not complaining but I can see why they might.

Looking out my window in Bozeman right now. 43 and gray. It's like this for 2, sometimes 3 months in the spring. Infuriating and arguably worse than the dead of winter.

Spent 10 days there last Summer. It's incredible. Take the opportunity while you have it.

Yeah, Juneau is one of the most expensive cities in the US because the locals don't care for expansion, and it takes a bit of time to become recognized as "local." Found this to be true a lot of places out West. Folks who've lived there a long time want to preserve the quality of life they have.

Ahhh you just describe my life to the dot. Sub Bozeman for Glenwood Springs and change the names of the ski resorts.

I had 6 weeks off work in February and March. I skied over 30 days, did some snow 4X4ing and trout fished a few days.

And winter is the slow season. Things will pick up soon.

My cousin used to live there. It's right next to Gallatin Gateway, so you can go hang out with Ted Turner.

Otherwise, two words - "buffalo women."
