Damn that would be awesome. If you don't mind my asking, what industry are you in? Just wondering how someone gets the chance to move there. I say go for it.

I passed through it on the way to West Yellowstone a few years back, but I didn't pay much attention to the city itself. If I rememebr correctly is it somewhat in a valley/plain but with mountain ranges in virtually every direction. Absolutely beatiful country though. I rememeber driving south along the Galatin River, seeing a moose standing on a little island in the middle fo the river and a little later an eagle or hawk flying along the bank as well.

It is a wonderful location just 30 minutes or so from Yellowstone and a half day's drive to Glacier. Also easy access to Boise, Salt Lake and really not that bad of a drive (maybe a day) to Seattle.

I think the downside would be the winter weather. I rememeber that even the interstates have ways to be closed, and from boseman once the snows move in I don't think there is an easy way to get to Jackson Hole, even if you could go interstate via Idaho Falls you might still have closures getting back into Wyoming. When I was there it snowed the week before Memorial Day, and in parts of Montana spring, summer and fall are pretty well compressed to June - August or mid September.

Summer and spring will be warmer than you think. Winter will be pretty rough though. I've been to Glacier national Park fwiw. And I loved it out there.

Possibly have an opportunity to move to Bozeman, Montana in about a month and was wondering if any OTers had been there. I've never been, but it's consistently ranked as one of the best outdoor cities in all of America so it sounds like it would be awesome.

Bozeman is INCREDIBLE. Great little city with so much to do. I'm insanely jealous that you get this opportunity.

A ton of culture, great restaurants, you could fish and hunt forever. Yellowstone is an hour or so away. It's awesome.

I feel like cold weather is a little different when you can go skiing, or snowmobiling, or sledding as opposed to like Chicago

Does Chicago get -20 on the regular?

I actually spent my 21st birthday there, while my friend's car was in the shop. Beautiful countryside! Cold in the winter, but you say you've survived Chicago. If you like the outdoors, it's a great place to be. About 90 miles north of Yellowstone Park. I'd go in an instant.

Do it. You can buy good clothes and layer up on cold winter days. Enjoy having four seasons, and all the great outdoor activities that come with it.

Yea, man. This is a no-brainer. I don't know when you plan on making this move, but if you get a chance, visit this summer. Wait until about July when it's 80 during the day. It's beautiful.

Yea it will definitely be a huge transition from Texas haha.

I'm 28 right now, and I'm not saying I'm past the blacking out stage, but I also wish I could have stuff to "do" instead of just drinking all the time.

Somewhere with nonstop activities sounds incredible.

visited many times as I have friends that live there. It is a great town with lots to do outside. Jobs are scarce, women are hard, but a nice place overall. If I was young again or had a trust fund, I'd spend some time out there.

For 2 years, I would be ALL over that.

I've never been , but if it's as cool as I've heard, go for it. You definitely need to branch out from day (and night) drinking. That shite's boring. Go skiing, fishing, backpacking, white water rafting..hell I just looked at a map, it's like 2 hours from Yellowstone park..people travel from all over the world to go there!

i've lived part-time in missoula for nearly a decade, and that place has incredible women. but UofM is a bigger draw than Montana State.

I picked Missoula over Bozeman for the weather and proximity to a wider variety of outdoor/cultural stuff (<3 hours from Spokane, more lakes), bigger town, and less frigid weather.

But it was a toss-up. OP should do it without another thought.

Winters aren't that bad, plus there are outdoor things to do that time of year. It's a hell of a lot better than a Chicago winter.
