Lock and load, bud.

Just to clarify I meant the Greater Baton Rouge area, not specifically Baton Rouge. I know better than Port A or Donaldsonville just from talking to coworkers. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
And yes me and my wife are both extremely proficient with the firearms we have. Also plan on getting a security system the second we make the permanent move. But that would be standard anywhere we lived, hell Houston has just as bad of areas if you make a wrong turn.

I'm LMAO at these morons giving you all this advice about living on the Westside who only know what they see from the highway.
You shouldn't even be considering living anywhere else. Unless you really enjoy spending significant time in really frustrating traffic.
BUT by all means move to Zachary. lol.

Brusly or Addis.
Both are decent areas and both are an easy drive to the west side plants. You could probably get new construction there if you were so inclined.

A friend of mine rents a pretty older house in Plaquemine. Not sure if you are into that kind of house but they are around.
Newer consruction would be Addis or Brusly.

There are some new developments going up near Brusly near Plaquemine that are pretty nice. A lot of young engineers who are working on that side of the river are buying in that area.
Just a thought!

For the pe8ce you will spend on something in prairieville, you could get considerably more outside of plaquemine headed south or on Hwy 77 toward Grosse Tete.
Hwy 77 being the nicer wink wink area.
Given you are at shintech and your wife will want to run into BR occasionally, I would (and did) go that route. While it is further into town (20-30 miles), it's all back roads with zero traffic. Traffic INTO and out of baton rouge is non existent if you arent headed in at 7:30 or leaving at 5:00.
Zero crime. Good people, for school you can get your kids into to MSA west or send them to St. John.
It's also cheap living over here.

Sorry your work hates you and would have you move to a war zone.

If single, move to Addis, Brusly or Plaquemine. Those places are filled with sluts. Just watch your speed. They live to give out tickets that side of river.

Oak Hills subdivision is nice. Big yards, good for kids, neighbors know each other and look out for everyone. Get on interstate at siegen and it's a straight shot from there. Traffic can be a nightmare but probably not too bad working nights. I do love southdowns but traffic is pretty bad especially on the weekends during football season.

I have a buddy that owns a pharmacy in plaquemine and lives here in prairieville. Uses the ferry everyday. I live in geismar. It's an easy haul from here to plaq using the ferry

If anyone tells you that you will EVER have a 3 hour commute, they are wrong
This is blatantly false. I worked in Port Allen for over a year. On 3 occasions, traffic accidents shut down the Horace Wilkinson and/or the Huey P, causing it to take over 3 hours to get home. One time, I had to take the ferry, and wait through 3 ferry landings to get on because the bridges were closed. Another time, I had to detour all the way to the Sunshine Bridge and drive back up on I-10 to get back to Baton Rouge. All of those three happened in less than the span of a year.
Plaquemine is far harder to leave because it's on the wrong side of the Intracoastal Canal, which only has one road (LA-1) in and out. For some strange reason, 18-wheelers like to jackknife on that bridge and close it around 4:00pm.
Driving to and from BR and Plaquemine is a f&%king crapshoot, and an aggravation that is both unnecessary and not worth any salary that doesn't afford you a f&%king helicopter.
I would live in Brusly or Addis if I were the OP.
